InterMat released the top recruits for the class of 2009. Ohio has three wrestlers in the top 10. No surprise the top of that list is David Taylor.
InterMat's Top 10 Recruits
1. David Taylor (Graham, OH) 125
2. Eric Grajales (Brandon, FL) 135
3. Chris Perry (Stillwater, OK) 189
4. Alec Ortiz (Newberg, OR) 160/171
5. R.J. Peña (Sprague, OR) 145
6. Collin Palmer (St. Edward, OH) 140
7. Derek St. John (Iowa City West, IA) 145
8. Zach Toal (Troy Christian, OH) 145
9. Austin Meys (Shenendahowa, NY) 145
10. Trent Weatherman (Ballard, IA) 152

Taylor has been the best wrestler in his class since his freshman year, a rare feat to go wire-to-wire. Taylor is a remarkable talent and I can't wait to watch him at Iowa State in the future.
Palmer has been dominant since he was a freshman. I think the only thing that has pushed him down a bit was not going to Fargo the past years to compete against the rest of the nation there. Palmer is probably the second-best folkstyle wrestler in that group.
Toal has rapidly improved from his freshman year where he was at 112 last year as a junior. He really put himself on the map with wins over Jameson and Jordan respectively.

Palmer does not match up with the wrestlers 2-4 above him in terms of credentials - that's where the rank comes from. I also think that when you see out of state competition wrestle Palmer, they wrestle him better than in-state competition does. I thought he would get the five slot over Peña, but then again, that's just me.
The one in the top ten that kind of surprises me is Zach Toal. However, I will say this, the ranking gets pretty open once you go behind Palmer. Toal is as solid a wrestler as any of the options behind him to be ranked top ten - two time state champ, doesn't lose a lot, some quality wins, technically sound wrestler (the credential base may not be there to justify the rank in
some
ways).
The broad talent base that has been present in the previous couple of classes is not there with this one - at least in the immediate top tier.
Top ten nationally last year (7-1-07): Welch, Winston, Mason, Meade, Mangrum, Graff, Oliver, NaMoore, Deitchler,
Roddy
(Howe and Wright were 11 and 12)
Top ten nationally c/o 2007 (7-1-06): Gardner, Z Kemmerer, Albert White,
Nemec
, Jantzen, Benefiel, Darling, Foster, K Smith, Medina (S Yohn and Chaires were 11 and 12)
#'s 11-100 are premium service content, but there is a significant Ohio flavor to the listing.

I think Zach Neibert should be somewhere close to the top ten and I would love OSU to get him. I also like the number two guy as many of you have seen i started a thread about him. I didn't know he would be that high though

It seems Graham is the last frontier for tOSU to have that wall up around Ohio. Neibert would be a good pickup but their best three of late have gone elsewhere (Jordan, Wisconsin: Boyd, Michigan: Taylor, ISU).

I agree, it would be nice for Ohio State to go at establishing the Graham pipeline, especially with all the talent that will be coming through there through the next decade. But that's always the case, hit the pavement hard when it comes to these schools that just keep on developing/bringing in talent. It looks like we've got some depth at certain weights, any others we look to improve on by trying to bring in some of these studs?

Yeah we are deep at some weights but we could use some depth at some to. One I can think of right away would be 165
