One website (OWS) is reporting that Effner has resigned and intimated problems with grades. I haven't seen anything on other websites (putting it still in the rumor category I guess).
Anyone have insight?

I can confirm that I heard Effner had resigned. I was waiting to hear back from Coach Effner himself before writing anything. My understanding was he had other opportunities he was pursuing.
Let's spin this in a new direction. Assuming the report is true, who would you like to see CSU go after for a coach?

You are going to need someone there that can handle that urban environment and be able to bring in wrestlers that could excel in that environment. It seems to me lately that they are not running the tighest ship and past problems have seemed to catch up with them.

Effner resigns as wrestling coach at Cleveland State
Posted by Joe Maxse, Plain Dealer Reporter July 07, 2008 10:52AM
Cleveland State announced this morning that Jack Effner has resigned as head wrestling coach.
Effner, who has coached at CSU for 10 seasons, has accepted a school counseling position in Virginia. His resignation is effective August 2.
"I would like to thank Jack for the dedication that he has shown during his 10 years at Cleveland State," CSU Director of Athletics Lee Reed said in a release. "Because of his effort, he is leaving the program in good shape and it should be easy to find a successor. I wish Jack good luck in his new position."
Effner was only the second head coach of the wrestling program in CSU modern day history after replacing Dick Bonacci for the 1998-99 season. His record at CSU was 71-91-3 and he had 37 wrestlers qualify for the NCAA tournament. His overall record in 19 season, including nine seasons at Army, is 158-133-8.
Effner's sons, Jason and Marcus, wrestled for him at CSU. Marcus, who will be a fifth-year senior in 2008-09, wrestled at the NCAA Championships as both a freshman and junior. Jason was a four-year starter, winning 64 bouts. He remained at his alma mater the last three seasons, serving as Director of Wrestling Operations.
"I really appreciate the opportunity that Cleveland State gave me 10 years ago and I will look back on this time with a lot of great memories," Effner said. "My time at Cleveland State has been a real good experience for me and my family but it just felt like it was time for me to travel a different path."

If I'm CSU, the one guy that would be of surpassing interest: Joe Heskett.

To expand:
Heskett is a former world class competitor with several years of assistant coaching experience at major D1 programs. His association with Ohio State has positively increased his profile throughout Ohio. He's popular, intelligent, experienced and has the right personality to recruit the state successfully. I think it's a no-brainer and that they might actually be able to land him.
The only question mark would be if his health issues would allow him to handle the stress of the job.

Alot of good candidates out there-- alot ---after all there are less than 90 Div I head jobs in America. In other sports the best college players move to the next level to play, but in wrestling the best players COACH because there is No next level. Its a crowded field, there should be plenty of good candidates..
Will be
interesting to see the level of interest
from colege assistants & other coaches around the nation ???
