I did a quick count of Cleveland area (The Plain Dealer 7 counties) wrestlers that are part of Ohio's Fargo team (should be fairly acccurate):
Cadet Freestyle, 32 of 68 wrestlers
Junior Freestyle, 30 of 66
Cadet Greco, 5 of 39
Junior Greco, 6 of 43
Noteworthy and a bit surprising to see the contrast in percentage of freestyle reps vs. greco reps coming out of the Cleveland region.

Steve,
the reason why, imo: historically its easier to make the Ohio fargo teams in Greco than it is in freestyle, since more top kids go freestyle only.
(Some of Ohio's top kids "double" in both styles, like Logan Stieber & Jamie Clark will do this summer in Jr Greco & FR. )
i think its testimony to fact that while NE Ohio today is Not what is was 15, 20 & 30 years ago, imo, its still the deepest in top talent compared to the rest of Ohio.

Of course this is just a one year snap shot. It does seem to suggest that, in Greater Cleveland, greco is an afterthought.
Or it's not coached.
Or there is no established tradition.
Or the wresters prefer seeking success via freestyle, if possible.

Actually I was training a kid in greco this past spring while I was at school still, and the reason he had to come down to me was that not many people around Cleveland even coach greco.

Most of Ohio's Junior National Greco All-Americans have wrestled both styles, it is rare that the All-Americans compete only in Greco. The best athletes are competitive even without extensive Greco training, something that has been greatly lacking in Ohio. If Ohio had better training by building Greco clubs or supporting Greco clinics, Ohio would dominate the Junior Nationals in both styles. What concerns me though, is the continuing growth of the better Ohio HS wrestlers to avoid the Junior Nationals, which has always been the premier HS age competition. The domination of the Ohio team has faded over the last few years, after being so dominate from the early 1980's until the early 2000's. There are so many so-called National Championships that they are all being watered down in quality.
