30 state placements between them all with four of them being runner-up placements and 3 of them being champins. Not a bad class for not getting started untill late may. <thumbsup>

I see Jesse Campbell transferred out of OSU. They had a lot of 285 guys on the roster, and added freshman Walsh and transfer Gardner(?)

Jack:

Last year the Buckeyes had five heavyweights on their roster...
J.D. Bergman - Redshirt Senior - NCAA 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Corey Morrison - True Junior - Started at 197 in '06 and 285 in '07
Eric DiAgosta - True Freshman - OHSAA 3rd, A
Jesse Campbell - True Freshman - OHSAA 1st, 2nd, Q
Zach Stolarsky - True Freshman - OHSAA 7th, Q

Bergman graduated, but the Buckeyes got commitments from three-time state placer John Hiles (Columbus St. Francis DeSales), prep school national champion and former Massachusetts state champion Pat Walsh (Kingston Wyoming Seminary, PA), and former four-time Virginia state champion and national #1 ranked wrestler, Cody Gardner (Christiansburg, VA) after a redshirt year at Virginia Tech.

All of these wrestlers will be fighting for a spot with a year of eligibility on the line...
Cody Gardner - If he's not at 197.
Zack Weinrich - If he's not at 197.
Corey Morrison - He started here in 2007.
Eric DiAgosta
Zach Stolarsky

John Hiles and Pat Walsh can redshirt.

Back to the topic, this is an outstanding class. I am actually very impressed with some of the talent on this list. Great work by the new staff.

With Dernlan's connections, Ashland could be a giant in D2 for years to come.

Clearly, Tim Dernlan can recruit. If he can coach--and I suspect he can--Ashland is going to be very good and soon.

Nice trend in Ohio lately with talented young coaches such as Miller (Heidelberg), Dernlan (Ashland) and Hawald (Mt Union) bringing energy to the Ohio collegiate wrestling scene. No excuse not to have a top notch coach running any Ohio collegiate program regardless of level.

Awesome class for Ashland. This class alone has lots of depth and guys that could develop into studs in college

As far as young D3 coaching talent goes, I think you will begin to see Wilmington on the rise with 2x AA Carl Amerine taking the helm.

I noticed that Dave Crowley writes over on Yappi that he will be transferring to Ohio State for business and will try his hand in the wrestling room also.

I'm looking forward to seeing my former wrestler, Cody Toney, develop further. He had a tough senior season as he dislocated his elbow 4x -- with the last being 8 days before sectionals. He had only 4 practices in the 4 weeks prior to the state tournament and still placed 5th (after 3rd as a jr.) He had surgery last year and is excited to compete again and be in a great training environment.
