Any word on what's happening with the hiring process? Anyone want to offer guesses? Do we have any notions as to whom has applied for this job?

IMO, quality and quantity of applicants all depends on whether CSU let's it be known that they will give strong support to their wrestling program --- if so, I think good candidates will come out of the woodwork from all over the nation.
After all there are less than 90 of these jobs left in the nation. ---
In wrestling the "stars" coach --- like Cael, like Gable, like Brands
--- but in certain other sports the stars move on to play at the next level. In wrestling after college there is really no next level, FILA yes but that doesnt compare to MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA.
So it's always very competitive to get a college Division I head coaching job.

Here's what I have heard from people in the know...
- The process was started a while ago and they are nearing the end now. Expect a decision soon, possibly less than two weeks.
- CSU will only hire a person with at least five years of experience coaching at the college level.
- CSU pays only one assistant coach and they already have Anthony Coleman under contract for that position, so the new coach will not be able to bring in his own people except people who want to be volunteer coaches.

so far no good news on the Western front, imo. So far.
i would think a new head coach would very much want his own staff.
one major thing bothers me, coach Effner resigned about a month ago, that is
very late
. After all practice starts in mid-September. This is the BIG FLY in the OINTMENT.
Normally wrestling coaching changes occur right after the season and by now a new head coach has been hired, and in fact had taken over operations already.
Therefor as of today i wonder how it all will turn out ???? But we will see.

Strange that with so few DI coaching openings available, that currently, there are two (Clev. St and Stanford) that are open.

Seems like a great opportunity for a local kid who had success at the D1 level to take the chance. I'm guessing there would be low expectations the first year when a system could be put into place. Over the next year or two you could bring in your own people or renew the ones you have currently. There would be some advantage in recruiting locally. Personal costs re living expenses would be low.
