Cejudo advaces with a victory 0-1, 3-2, 4-3 over the 2006 World Champion Veilkov (Bulgaria).
Cejudo looked sharp and on top of his game in that match.

Mike Zadick lost 0-5, 0-6 to Vasyl Fedoryshyn (Ukraine). Zadick looked a few steps behind on everything and was just out wrestled by Fedoryshyn who looked very good.
Zadick showed no offense in that match and it really cost him. I did not see Zadick take a single offense shot or make a real attempt to score points. Hopefully he can make back in if Fedoryshyn makes it to the gold medal finals.

Anyone know when Cejudo wrestles again? He looked outstanding. Nice to see offensive wrestling awarded.
Zadick - what can you say? He was blocked by an underhook the entire match and failed to even present a challenge to the Ukranian on the mat.
TheMat is clogged up, so if anyone knows when Cejudo will wrestle next let me know.
Thanks!

cejudo is in the semis. Unlike Greco, where luck plays a huge role in the outcome (sadly I now see this to be true), freestyle is still a skill sport. Cejudo was terrific against Georgia. How nice to see a USA wrestler that wrestles smart, aggressive when it counts and is a true freestyler.

Cejudo wins 1-3, 3-2, 3-0 over Besarion Gochashvili (Georgia) again Cejudo kept the offense up an really took it too him in the 3rd period. Cejudo advances to the semifinals now.

The Uzbek wrestler advanced to the semi at 60kg and now faces an opponent from Japan. If the Uzbek wrestler wins that match, Zadick carries to the consolation. Baitrov v Mohamaddi on the other semi. If Baitrov doesn't win that match, one would think he does though, Quintana cannot compete in consolation.
Cejudo has the Korean at 55kg in the semis, I think.

Henry Cejudo advances to the Gold Medal finals match after defeating the wrestler from Azerbijian in 3 periods.
Cejudo has made the freestyle fun to watch with his non stop attacking. He absolutely never let's up and is in great match.

Cejudo wins again! What a run. He won all three matches after losing the first period. He was non stop, and I mean non stop, action and shots from his feet. I am pumped!
I love to see the aggressor win. To Harry Lester's post on another thread, typical American wrestling is very aggressive and pushing the action, even if sometimes not prudent. Henry was the clear aggressor in every match and is now in the Olympic finals at the age of 21. Wow.
What made the victory even sweeter is the classless move of the Azerbijian (sp?) coach slapping Cejudo's hand instead of shaking it after the match. I love it.
This makes me wonder if some of our best HS athletes with Olympic aspirations shouldn't pursue their dreams at the OTC.

U.S. freestyle wrestler Daniel Cormier withdraws from 96 kg Olympic competition to be held on Thursday
U.S. Olympic Committee
08/21/2008
U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestler Daniel Cormier (Stillwater, Okla.) has withdrawn from the Olympic Games competition at 96 kg (211.5 lbs.), which is scheduled for Thursday, August 21.
Cormier weighed in for the competition on Wednesday, August 20 at 3:15 p.m. and received his draw for the competition.
Cormier became dehydrated and received treatment from U.S. Olympic Committee medical staff at the Poly Clinic in the Athlete Village and at a local hospital. He has since rehydrated and is expected to have a complete recovery.
Out of extreme caution for his health, after consultation with Cormier, his coaches and the medical staff, it was decided that Cormier would not compete on Thursday. According to international rules, there can be no replacement after weigh in is held, so there will be no U.S. entry at the weight class.
