Lashaway and Mitcheff win there first matches, but Bedelyon loses. I figured that Mitcheff would see Kennedy in his next match, but it seems that Kennedy was upset.

Great round for OSU and KSU, with key losses to Tsirtsis at 141 (helps Lashaway down the road) and Kennedy at 133 (helps Reece).

Jenkins at 149 and Tsirtsis and Kennedy at 141 both lose. These are all big results for the Bucks.

Colt wins 10-3, Marable loses. 165 is losing some top seeds, which will help Sponseller. But a lot of wrestling left.

Ohio State is sitting in third right now after the first round. Iowa State leads the way, then Iowa.
I would love for the Buckeyes, or even the Cyclones, to beat the Hawkeyes but OSU/ISU match up to many times in the near future. They are going to knock each other out of the running and will have to rely on help to keep pace with Iowa.
Fanthorpe/Humphrey may meet in the quarterfinals
Jaggers/Gallick may meet in the quarterfinals
Mueller/Palmer meet in tonight's second round
If one team or the other wins all of three of those matches (Go Bucks!) then they will be able to keep the Hawkeyes in sight, otherwise, forget it, you are going to need help.
Looking at Iowa...
Falck could lose to Robles, but probably won't. Dennis already had his scare and probably should have lost (fleeing the mat...whatever.) Tsirtsis will battle back and score a boatload of points in the wrestlebacks. Metcalf is Metcalf and we are hoping to knock him off in the semis. Morningstar is just like Dennis, he has already had his scare and probably should have lost. Again, we are hoping to knock him off in the semis though. It just keeps going for the Hawkeyes, but I guess that is what you get when you get those top seeds.

Johnstone WINS his cons match 11-8 over Dragon. See-saw battle with Johnstone scoring an escape TD and Backs late in the match to seal the win. The former coach in me loves that Johnstone, back to the wall, 5th yr senior, found a way to stay alive. I'm thrilled for him to get a win like this at nationals.
