Discussion Topic: Best of luck on the lauching of the new Premier Forum

OW.net staff, I really like this idea. Hopefully in this forum we will see more intelligent and rational discussion compared to some other sites since no one can hide here. Don't get me wrong. I post on other sites and enjoy them, but every site has its positives and negatives. Some are more for information, some are more for chumming around with old friends, some are more light hearted, and some I just enjoy the insight of the posters. I am looking forward to seeing which direction this forum takes. Best of luck with this.
Also, can the public view this forum like the other? I think that this should be private. Only open to be viewed by the individuals that are willing to be members. Just my two cents worth.

Thanks, Brad!
No, the public can't view this forum... yet. Only registered and approved members can. My thinking on that was the same as yours - if they want what we have to offer, they'll take the five seconds it takes to sign up!

Dan--I told you that this didn't strike me as a good idea but it appears I was wrong. The response has been excellent. I think that OW.net has always attracted classy posters. This appears to be the next step.
I look forward to Tom Ryan discussing intimate details of his recruiting operation with forum members. That's what you're promising, right?

This is a good idea that is certainly worth trying. Its great to see the staff trying new ideas and not standing pat. Strong content is one key. Another is people simply being willing to post more often and bring their best topics here first.

No!!! I wouldn't promise something I can't deliver on and that is one thing I'm quite positive that I cannot deliver on. I can promise specific detail regarding all the college programs and much more depth than we've had on all the programs, but no coach is going to come on here and divulge intimate information about their program.
I am trying to get the staff to come on here for a Q&A though. Tommy Rowlands did one with us a while ago and I'm sure they'd be open to something like that again. That would be awesome.
Look for a Notre Dame College Q&A this week, along with another NE Ohio college or two. These Q&As will be done on this forum only.
... oh, and an interview with a certain Buckeye! <thumbsup>

Good stuff.
I've posted under my real name since I first got on the messageboards years ago.
If only I'd had this capability in Virginia when I ran my old Mat Talk On-Line site.

i told others this was a great idea when i saw it proposed--- i wasnt sure how well it would work, still not sure ---- but nevertheless a great idea, and a needed one.

Bob P says, you may want to re-think this, heres why
.
If viewers can visit and see this forum they will be much quicker to register, whereas if you keep it hidden then alot of potential viewers may never be motivated to join/register. Bottom line: if you have a good product you want to show it to as many people as possible, like a TV comercial where they seek the biggest audience of people likely to buy their product.

I have to retract my original opinion on keeping this forum from the public and agree with Bob. His reasoning is sound and makes a great deal of sense to me.

In a rare turn of events, I agree with Bob.
I have the Premium Service stuff on InterMat, but always give some nuggets, samples and free previews here and there to entice potential PS members.
Most forums offer the view but not post option.
Although some of the fun when meeting people at nationals was getting names and faces with handles.
I know GripsNhips and Homerdindon are quite the celebrity when they tell people who they are.

ha, ha JB, come on now, you know you agree with me more often than you want to admit. You are after all a proud son of the South, loathe to admit anything, ha, ha.

as Lee Corso would say "Not so fast, my friend!"
The big difference here is that a non-registered person can view the list of members to this forum. When you scroll down that list (of real names incidentally) you see many esteemed Ohio wrestling names and even the likes of Jason Bryant and Bob Preusse (ok, I'm mocking you two now lol). My point is that with other places that offer private forums, where you must be a member to join, you really don't know what you're joining. At least with this forum you have a list of other members that can be viewed so you know the company you're keeping.
With all that said, I still agree with you all. Just wanted to throw that difference in dynamic out there.

I like the combo of screenname at one site and real names at another.
I think the screenname side of the site should be advertised like crazy. Anywhere and everywhere, as much as possible. Also add tiny nuggets of information (3-5%) of what they would get if they signed up/registered/payed for the real name site.
I think the real name side of things is a great idea but should be reserved as a site within a site.
