It's being reported on another site that tOSU is about to make a VERY big addition to the team! Per highly reliable sources this unnamed "Wrestler X" is on campus working out and will be enrolled in school second semester and in the lineup as soon as January 7th possibly. Stay tuned for more details, I wish I could post them.

Any guesses on who it could be?

Thinking (hoping) the 4th and final piece to the 4 time State Champs from the Norwalk area?

Rampant "unconfirmed" speculation is that "Wrestler X" is indeed Chris Phillips. Additionally, it is being bantered about that Mr. Phillips would be taking over the 165 spot in the Buckeye lineup as soon as January 7th, the day after the Nebraska dual.

News should officially be out in about a week per the other site.

This would be great but one of those things where I'll believe it when it happens.

The talent is undeniable but so is the baggage. I would love to see it happen, but cringe at all the thoughts of it ending poorly. He would have a great support system in place, though.

If true I wonder what type of shape he is in. I can't wait to see him wrestle Taylr on the 29th.

Yup. That was my concern when this was hinted at a couple weeks ago. College wrestling is less than fun when you are passionate about it. When you are waffling about whether you even want to wrestle, it's downright painful. If his head is truly in the game, he has a ton of potential. If it's not, this will be ugly.

That being said, if it is Chris, Tom is no fool and must have some insight as to why it is a positive move to bring him aboard. We owe the situation the benefit of the doubt.

I remember a young Luke Fickel wrestling a certain Kerry McCoy in a similar situation. It was not pretty for Luke.

I agree I hope coach learned from the gardner experience and isn't bringing him unless he is 100% committed.

I was at that match and McCoy destroyed Fickell

I was there too. Memorable match. If Luke were committed to and focused on wrestling he may well have been a guy that could have knocked McCoy off.

I have always been impressed with Chris Phillips, but he has a whole bunch of work ahead of him if he aspires to knock off D.T..

Assuming C.P. moves in at 165 what happens with Garcia. It seems Garcia could make 157, how does he match up with Demas?

Spot on! the days of having to get up for a match 2 or 3 times before States, to the grind of of 90% of his matches will be like a State Meet.

I believe he has been going round the clock w/ wrestling since I'd believe 3rd grade. Hopefully, being away for 7 or 8 months, seeing the success of his old Teammates, has lit the fire back up...... but as you mentioned Pat, it's a grind. He could have easily just needed time away. I don't know of his situation (troubles), but being away from the sport more than a year is extremely tough to comeback from.

I would expect it'll take at least until late Jan. or Feb for him to be in good enough shape to compete against a Top level athlete.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here with the Taylor talk. Phillips has been out of the loop for a bit, and I know we have all been let down thusfar by Garcia, but Phillips would have to beat him to make the lineup first.

Man...that's crazy--if true. Let's find out first. I've gotta see this happen before I believe it's anything other than a tantalizing tale designed to further hurt the self esteem of long suffering Browns fans who really need Ohio State wrestling to be good.
(sorry...kind of a personal issue...)

OK. If true, here are my thoughts.

1) It's friggin amazing!
2) No way.
3) Is he in shape?
4) Is he motivated--suitably--for this challenge?
5) It's friggin amazing!
6) He's lavishly talented.
7) He's part of the most remarkable group of teammates in the history of Ohio high school wrestling.
8) Can Phillips really begin attending class and participating in D1 wrestling at the same time? If so, can he do it well?

9) Wouldn't it make more sense to redshirt him and get him ready for next year?
10) Unless the staff believes he could be the missing piece to a team that they think has a shot for a national title (sounds far fetched but it's not impossible and coaches thing big.)
10) Does he go 165?
11) Does this push Garcia down to 157?
12) Pretty crazy if he comes.
