LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - After dropping its first dual meet of the season, Kent State's wrestling team won three straight at the Lock Haven Duals in commanding fashion.

With victories over Drexel (29-12), East Stroudsburg (35-3) and Pitt-Johnstown (34-6), the Flashes completed a perfect outing at Lock Haven - the only team in the field to do so - as Nic Bedelyon and Jermail Porter each had two falls and Dan Mitcheff continued is undefeated campaign. Mitcheff was joined by Drew Lashaway, Eric Chine, Michael Blackwell and Porer as Flashes who all sported perfect 3-0 marks on the day. Clint Sponseller went 2-0.

"We wrestled pretty well but I definitely think there's some room for improvement," head coach Jim Andrassy said. "Our lower weights have done a good job and the upper weights have as well. That said, everyone has something he can definitely improve on."

In the opener against Drexel, Kent State had to rally from an opening bout loss by Bedelyon. And as was the case all day long, the upper weights closed the feal with a flourish. In the three duals, Kent posted an 11-1 record in matches from 174-285. Pins by Lashaway, Blackwell and Porter lengthened out what was a precarious 17-12 advantage to the eventual 29-12 final.

Against East Stroudsburg the Flashes operated at near-perfection. Winning nine of the 10 matches, Kent State rolled to a 35-3 win. Despite the lopsided final, the Golden Flashes won six of the nine matches by decision. Mitcheff and Sponseller each picked up major decisions in the victory.

In the day's final round, the Golden Flashes won eight of 10 matches and soundly defeated Pitt-Johnstown. Pins by Bedelyon and Porter, as well as a Blackwell win by forfeit accounted for 18 of Kent State's points in the 34-6 win. Bedelyon's fall came in only 1:48 of the first period.

Kent St is 4 & 1 in duals, losing to U of Michigan 26 to 14, but winning 4 of the 10 matches. 133 Mitcheff is undefeated 12 & 0. Team will compete after Xmas in N Carolina at Southern Scuffle. Dustin Kilgore, 15 & 1 in opens, has received special invitation to wrestle in the Southern Scuffle-- he is redshiriting so will have to travel separate from the Kent St team.

coach Andrassy and staff are doing great job i think--- Ohio St visits there for a dual the evening on January 4th, Kent has won the last 2 between these schools.

I am glad to see Kilgore get an invite to compete. Sometimes I think the job that Andrassay has done at Kent gets slightly overlooked due to Tom Ryan's work at Ohio State. Andrassay's squad could move back into the Top 25 by years end, again.

The big question becomes can Gross, Mitcheff, Lashaway, or Porter AA this year? The Southern Scuffle and Ohio State dual will be good gauges as to where they stand.
