Should be a great dual. Kent was 19th and OU 28th in the latest InterMat ranking.

I project 7-8 very close matches.

The development of 25 and 33 for Kent give them the edge, I think. Regardless, should be a good night for Ohio wrestling in general.

Projected Lineups from the Kent State site!

Friday against Ohio

125 – Tyler Heminger (4-2) or KeVon Powell (3-7) vs. No. 32 Stevie Mitcheff (19-9)

133 – Joe Munos (1-7) or Garrett Garness (0-5) vs. Mack McGuire (17-12)

141 – Kagan Squire (9-12) vs. Luke Kern (8-13) or Kyle Bauer (13-13)

149 – Andrew Romanchik (10-7) vs. Nick Carr (20-9)

157 – No. 27 Sparty Chino (16-7) vs. Tommy Sasfy (11-10)

165 – No. 29 Harrison Hightower (16-11) vs. Caleb Marsh (14-6)

174 – No. 16 Cody Walters (23-2) vs. Sam Wheeler (17-8)

184 – Ryan Garringer (13-11) or Cody Rodgers (11-8) vs. No. 17 Casey Newburg (25-4)

197 – No. 28 Phil Wellington (15-9) vs. No. 1 Dustin Kilgore (27-0)

285 – No. 17 Jeremy Johnson (22-7) vs. No. 31 Keith Witt (11-11)

On my quick and dirty prediction, I see it splitting the matches at 5 apiece, but I see KSU getting bonus at 133 and 197 to win the match.

OU Favorite: 141/155/165/174/285
KSU Favorite: 125/133/149/184/197

KSU 17 - OU 15

OU is very solid from 155 down to 285, but OU can't really compete with Kilgore and Newburg.

It should be a very close and very entertaining match-up!

I agree. I was surprised to hear that KSU has won the last 8. My, how time flies when you are having fun. I have KSU winning it, 18-15, with the difference being bonus points from Kilgore and maybe some from either 125 or 133.

KSU wins at 125, 133, 149, 184, and 197
OU wins at 141, 157, 165, 174, and 285

This will be a great night of wrestling and am looking very forward to it. The MACC will be rocking!!

Marsh beat Hightower 4-1 earlier this year.

I know. I'm just trying to provide a false sense of security to the OU faithful. Did it work?

My hope is that KSU gets an early pin and buries OU with momentum like 2 years ago. However, I think OU has a much better team now and doubt that history will repeat itself.

Big problem for OU is that their weak spots look worse than Kent's. It could be a very tight dual. Kent does appear to have some lineup adjustments. Why did I think McGuire was redshirting?

Yeah Kent has a couple definite wins. OU may not have any. Many of the matches are close to toss-ups.

Side note - I went to the OU-NIU dual last week. Hightower posed for a picture with my 5 year old, it made my kid's night. Very nice young man.

It was the plan. McGuire (true freshman) wrestled unattached early in the season at 133 while Bauer (redshirt freshman) was the starter. They have both wrestled pretty well, but I think Mack (17-12) has the edge. Since then, Bauer (13-13) was moved up to 141; probably because the committee approach at 141 was a combined 26-42. However, it appears as though Kern (true freshman at 8-13) is now being given a shot because of the promise he has shown while being aggressive.

Heard a radio interview this week (Tuesday?) where Andrassy predicted 8 or 9 wins -- something like that. Said he had the team pointed toward this meet immedately after the last meet.

I like the way Coach A thinks! Looks like it is going to be a nice crowd. I got here 25 minutes before 7 and had to wait in line awhile to get a ticket and a hot dog. People are starting to sit in the upper sections of the MACC because the lower areas are crowded.

Delayed the start for 10 minutes due to the crowd size. Starting at 174. Walters with the early TD. Wheeler with a quick escape. Another TD and 2 back for Walters who is riding tough. Wheeler escapes, 6-2 at end of 2. Quick cut now 7-2. Wheeler can't generate any offense. OU wins it 8-2.

184 Newburg and Garringer with no real action in the 1st. Newburg with the quick escape. Garringer with the first real shot but the 2nd ends 1-0. Good shot but Casey can't finish. Finishes that one. 3-0 Newburg who is brutal on top. 2 near fall on the tilt. 6-0 is the final. Crowd is getting into it now.
