Attention Wrestling Coaches, Parents and Wrestlers,

Registration for the 21st Ohio Tournament of Champions, to be held April 20, at the Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH), is now underway. This year, we are anticipating 3000 entries, representing 30+ states, to compete and already have entries from as far away as Texas and Oregon.

Often regarded as the toughest youth wrestling tournament in the United States, TofC alumni include: Kyle Dake, David Taylor, Logan Stieber, Kellen Russell, Frank Molinaro, Ed Ruth, Steve Bosak, Quentin Wright, Cam Simaz, Zach Rey, Jordan Oliver, Nick Megaludis, Cam Tessari, Hunter Stieber and 10X TofC Champion Jon Reader.

Special Guests scheduled to appear at this year’s event, (as of January 27, 2013), include: Lee Kemp (3X NCAA & World Champion Wrestler) and Chauncey Leopardi (Squints, from teh movie “The Sandlot”).

Other topics included in this release:

-Free Spectator Admission and NO Coaches Passes necessary
-Qualification
-Mats for those that go 2 and out
-Club/Team Competition
-State Competition (Can Ohio defeat PA for a second year in a row?)

ADMISSION AND COACHES PASSES

Once again, there will be NO charge for spectator to attend the TofC. In addition, no coaches pass is necessary, in order to coach your wrestler(s).

2 AND OUT MATS

We will again be setting aside mats, for wrestlers that lose their first two matches, so that they may receive additional competition.

CLUB COMPETITION

Last year was the first time, in many years, that Club Competition was offered. Teams were placed in Divisions, based on the type of club they were, (local, area, broader area), and points given based upon a wrestler’s place finish.

This year, we expect a LOT more teams to submit rosters this year, as there are NO additional fees to enter the competiton and it is possible to receive a group discount on entry fees (visit http://ohiotofc.com/TournamentInformation/ClubTeamInformation for more information).

Overall team winners were:

Division 1: Ragin Raisins (PA
Division 2: Bad Karma (PA), Bad Boys (MD), Marion Elite (OH), Red Line (OH)
Division 3: Pride (PA), Journeymen (NY), Slaughterhouse (PA), Mineral Point (WI)

Awards for the Team Division will be given to the top 3 teams in each Age Group Division and top 6 teams in Overall Competition.

Ohio finally managed to defeat Pennsylvania in overall points, (based on individual placement), marking the first time in nearly a decade they had been able to do so. The final total was Ohio 1904 PA 1723. Can Ohio win again in 2013, or will PA claim the title back?
