This should be a great dual.

157 pounds: Iowa wins by decision
165 pounds: Penn State wins by technical fall

125 and 174 will tell the story of the dual.

Is this the time Megaludis establishes the weight class belongs to him? That match alone is worth the price of admission.

I'm with Patrick, it's all about 125. Megaludis has looked great this season and McDonough, while still undefeated, has looked beatable. I think 174 goes to Evans. It'll be close, but I think he's a legit contender while Brown is more of a mid-to-low AA. 133 might be interesting as well. I don't see Penn State winning, but Ramos will want bonus and Conway has got a gas tank that rivals anyone in college. Ramos will win, butI don't see him breaking Conway with several third period takedowns.

You've got to think Taylor and Ruth score bouns with no one on Iowa's side being able to...so again, it comes down to 125.

I agree it's a close match, but even in my most conservative viewpoint, I have the match at 5-5 with PSU winning on Bonus Points.

Iowa:133(Bonus)/141/285
PSU:149/165(Bonus)/184(Bonus)/197(Bonus)
Toss-up:125/157/174

Those three matches that I listed as toss-ups will be war. For the sake of this prediction, I am going to say that Iowa wins 2 of the three toss-ups. That leaves it 5 matches each, with PSU getting 3 bonus points to 1 for Iowa. - Of course a pin or TF by Iowa could make a big difference here, but I have:

PSU: 18 - Iowa: 16

Perhaps Alton can get bonus at 149??? He's a pinner and 149 is not a stong point in Iowa's line-up. Three guys on the Penn State side with bonus makes the 125 match not matter as much, if at all.

kinda surprised to not see quentin wright as a possibility for bonus points on this board? 8 or 9 pins and a couple majors so far this year? he might help tip the scales too?

I'm befuddled by the fact that Iowa is a slight favorite in this dual but that appears to be the case when you look at the matchups.

Everyone is pointing to 174 and 125 as pivotal matches but I'm going to also add in 157 and 285.

St. John has looked more pedestrian of late and I think it's because of the huge cut he's making--same as McDonough. DAlton has a real shot to pull the upset.

At 285, Telford has size and stamina but doesn't do a whole lot. The PSU duo of Gingerich and Lawson are an aggressive pair with equal size and go-getter attitudes. That may spell their undoing againt Telford...or whichever one starts (presumably Gingerich) will score and force Telford out of his comfort zone.

It's worth mentioning that Iowa is favored in all four of these matchups.

I like PSU to pull out at least one of these four. Since they're going to get bonus at 165 and 184 (plus Wright is a pinner at 197), look for PSU to squeak out a close win.

That match at 57 was one of the best of the year.

Alton need some cardio work, but his ability is through the roof.

Iowa won all the close matches. They are solid and well coached.

Fun dual to watch. Where's the chatter on here? I'm lonely... I mean, sure, my wife is sitting here reading a book, but was expecting some commentary on wrestling's best site!

That was a great dual, good matches all around. For such a low scoring bout, Megaludis/McDonough was an excellent match. Ruth looked surprisingly vulnerable at times. Telford has such tremendous upside. He moves so well and uses a lot more technique from neutral than most heavies. Good Friday night.

It was painfully obvious the Alton's had been out for a month. Their conditioning failed them as the match wore on. That will change, I'm sure.

Some observations I had while watching that dual:

Right now there is a difference in mindset between Iowa's wrestlers and most other teams. Iowa is always looking for points and trying to gain/avoid bonus points. Tony Ramos is a good example of that. The kid at 149lbs is another where he was on his way to getting teched by Alton and came back to keep it to (barely) a major. On the flip side, outside of Taylor and perhaps Ruth, you didn't see as much urgency to score even in the weights were PSU was favored largely. Q. Wright surprised me that he didn't score at least a major, but perhaps it was that 2 on 1 technique that Burak used to slow him down like he did Camp.

McD has to feel Megaludis nipping at his heels. The margin between those two is so small right now. I don't necessarily see him beating McD at B1G's but by the National Tourney time he just might have figured out how to take him.

133lbs is clearly a 2 horse race for the national title. If Logan beats Ramos at the B1G's, I'd imagine he'd have a huge advantage come nationals b/c (like last year's B1G finals) Ramos would focus on Stieber vice focusing on wrestling his match.

I'd be surprised if DSJ wins the 157lb weight class. He hasn't looked all that great over the past month or so. He was fortunate to win last night and he has underwhelmed against lesser opponents in the previous few matches. I just don't think he'll be on top of the podium in Des Moines.

I'm excited to see how Dake/Taylor III turns out. After his comments last year following the finals, Dake won't have many friends in Des Moines this year, so Taylor will have a very large backing come national finals time.

The Brown/Evans match was another great match. Brown all but had the late takedown only to give up the corner right at the end and ultimately the takedown. Credit Evans for his fight, but I think Brown takes future rematches where home mat advantage is not a factor.

If it wasn't for his singlet, Mike Evans would be one of my favorite wresters in college right now.

Um...that sounds like you want to see him out of his singlet bro ;-)

We've been able to see this guy a lot lately. He is not dazzling like Taylor or Ruth, but he never quits. The kid always finds a way to win. I like his attitude. I thought last night while watching him, "In March, he's going to not loose all the way to the top of the podium."

And, now that our guy from Kent State is gone...he certainly has the best stache in NCAA wrestling :-D

All I can say about Iowa is that they have an uncanny ability to rise to the level of the challenge they face.

I thought most of the matches were outstanding esp. 125 and 174. Iowa won every match that looked tight on paper. What an effort!

Tony Ramos v Logan Stieber is arguably two guys at the same level as Dake and Taylor. They are head and shoulders above guys like Graff, McCormick, Dardanes, etc...
