Discussion Topic: State Champion Picks Contest
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on February 26, 2013

Okay, I've done something like this before (I may still owe a few prizes) but I can't remember the rules. So, to make it simple:

Pick the winners of each weight class in all three divisions.

-- You get one point for each correct pick.
-- You get half a point if you pick the second place finisher.
-- If there are ties, we'll do the FILA ball grab.

First Prize:
-- One two-pound salami shipped to you plus a gift certficate for four large sandwiches from Mister Brisket.

Second and Third Place:
-- Gift certificate for two large sandwiches from Mister Brisket.

Just to give everyone time, you can submit entries anytime between now and midnight on Thursday. I'll even allow you to change your picks after the first round of wrestling. But once Friday rolls around -- your picks are locked.

Oh, and total your own points. No way I'm doing it.

It's occurred to me that one could simply plug in Josh Lowe's picks (or some similar guru) and likely win.

Any ideas on how to better structure this contest?

Should we can it and just run one for the NCAA tourney?

not sure, but it would be alot of work. im not too familar with div 3 at all. so i for one would be leaning on someone elses hard work. might be easier doing the NCAA.

I'm pretty well educated on the Ohio high school scene. I go to the State Tourney every year and make picks of every bout in every weight, every Division...and I'm wrong a lot. For all my information and knowledge, I suck at predictions.

But I'll certainly submit mine and lose with class...I'm used to it.

I suppose I should sit this one out?

I'm thinking that the contests I've done before have been strictly college/D1. Probably because I realized how hard it would be to run a high school contest in the past and forgot I'd already had that revelation.

I'm in, Hank. Good idea.

We do one every year where you have to pick a 1, 2, 3, and 4 from every district. You get all the points they score in the tournament. Keep your own score.

We don't do all 3 divisions, though. It would be considerable work.

Answers should be structured as:

106: D1, D2, D3
113: D1, D2, D3
etc....

It's a little late in the game for me to join in. I've been working on a few projects and have lost track of time. However, I would like to submit one pick.

106: D-I Shakur Laney (Groveport Madison)

Because I have the time

120: D-I Artem Timchenko (Olentangy Orange) ...Thompson who? ;-)

138: D-I Noah Forrider (Marysville)

145: D-I Jank "The Tank" Ryan (Olentangy Liberty) ...Recent name change. :-D

285: D-I Travis Gusan (Hilliard Davidson), D-II Alex Farrow (Whitehall), D-III Patrik "Patch" Garren (Bishop Ready)

If the above don't win it all, I will personally drive up to Mr. Brisket and buy a sandwich!

JRD: You probably win simply because you completed the job. Excellent effort. If we get five more people, I'll be shocked.

I'll post picks as soon as I can. Judge don't like it if you're posting from your phone during court.
