The pairings have been released and there are the DI pairings for the DI duals.

You have to go with the 5th year senior against the true frosh 4-0 CMU
133 - Reece Humphrey dec. Connor Beebe
Humphrey gets the Buckeyes going here with a W 4-3 CMU
141 - J Jaggers dec. Eric Kruger
This one should be another good battle between wrestlers with Jaggers coming out on top 6-4 OSU
149 - Lance Palmer dec. Brandon Carter
If Palmer can get going on top this one could be bonus 9-4 OSU
157 - Jason Johnstone dec. Tyler Grayson
Johnstone on a roll here and should be able to get another W for OSU 12-4
165 - Colt Sponseller dec. Trevor Stewart
This would be Sponseller's biggest win yet and could keep the Ohio State momentum going strong 15-4 OSU
174 - Brandon Sinnot md. Alex Picazo
This is a huge advantage for CMU and they should be able to get back on the board here with bonus points 15-8 OSU
184 - Mike Pucillo dec. Christian Sinnot
The key match here if Pucillo wins it pretty much seals the deal for Ohio State 18-8 OSU
197 - Wynn Michalak md. John Weakley
Tough match for Weakley as Michalak very tough senior 18-12 OSU
285 - J.D. Bergman dec. Bubba Gritter
Bergman gets to face another top heavyweight and continues his undefeated streak there. 21-12 OSU
Ohio State matches up very well with Central Michigan in the dual. I like Ohio State chances here and then it would be a battle with Minnesota in the quarterfinals.

Trust me when I say that Trevor Stewart is no pushover. Granted, there aren't many in DI wrestling but Mr. Stewart is NOWHERE near that list of names. If anything, he is on the same level as Sponseller. An Asics All-American (3rd team maybe??? Perhaps Honorable Mention.) out of Detroit Central Catholic. The kid wrestled up 10 pounds at the Toledo St. John tournament and had three pins - :05, :07 and :04. Did I mention he did all this with torn ligaments in one hand. He wrestled the finals match one-handed as well and tech-falled a kid that insisted on grabbing the injured hand. Not cool!
... and this is coming from the SuperFan!!!

This should be a terrific match. If the Bucks win, they'll likely get to wrestle Minnesota as their "reward."

Can't believe that MN is the 5th seed. This shows you what one or two weak weight classes will do to you in college.
Consider that they could have AA's at 25, 33, 41, 49, 57, 74, and 84, with possible finalists at all of those weights but 74. Yikes.

Stewart is tough indeed. I watched his finals match with Lewnes from the Reno Tourney on Flo. Nothing fancy with Stewart but he shoots a nice single and wrestles hard the whole match. I was more impressed with him and Lewnes than some bigger names at this wt. Lewnes won but worked hard for it--and Lewnes is ranked as high as #2. This match will be a very steep test for Colt and I expect it will be tight.

Central Mich. is tough. They can't have the kind of match they had against UT-Chattanooga, or they'll be coming home early. GO BUCS <smiling> I hope OSU matches get good "flo" coverage.

The seedings are ridiculous. Nebraska, unranked, is going to pound NW. I think Minny being 5th reflects how closely bunched the top teams are. Ohio State could wrestle every top team and have a shot to win with one minor upset. Or they could go 0-2.

This is a great event. I was there when Tommy R. won the dual over Oklahoma with a pin in OT, over I believe the monster Leonce Crump. One of the lbest ive moments in sports I've seen.
Back to the seeding:
I am still shocked about MN. I understand, with the loss to ISU, but a lot went right for ISU in that dual.
It's very interesting that PSU is ranked, and seeded, first. Projecting a PSU - MN dual, and based on ranking it would something like this:
Ness over McKnight 3-0 MN
Reiter over Haas (bonus points possible) 6-0
Strayer over Rivera (very close toss up) 6-3
Dustin over Jenkins (what a match!) 9-3
C.P. over Vallimont 12-3
Glasser over Rella 15-3
Dretsch over Erwin (toss up, but going by rankings) 18-3
Kish over Bomberger 21-3
Davis fall Bronson 21-9
Nord over Laboranti (toss up) 24-9
Anyway, you can see my point... The fifth seed could be favored in 7 or 8 weight classes over the first seed.
That said, PSU could win this match up if everything went right.
Also, I noticed that Ohio native David Erwin was the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week. Quite an honor.

Ethan--I was there as well. The Crump--Rowlands match was excellent. Crump was so peeved that the next day he went out and beat Steve Mocco. TR went on to win the first of his two titles.
It would be interesting to compare that year's Bucks squad with this years.
125: Jesse Leng v Nikko Triggas
133: Jeff Ratliff v Reece Humphrey (both sophs)
141: Robert Sessley v J. Jaggers
149: Keaton Anderson (his jr year) v Lance Palmer
157: Josh Janson v Jason Johnstone
165: John Clark(his soph season) v Colt Sponseller
174: Ryan Hieber v Alex Picazo
184: Anton Talamantes v Mike Pucillo
197: Nick Preston v John Weakley
285: Tom Rowlands (soph) v J.D. Bergman
The similarities are unbelievable! Triggas and Leng are both young with talent. Hump and Ratliff are both good sophs that sometimes make you scratch your head. Sessley was always best at end of the season. Anderson and Palmer are both top maulers that don't shoot well (Anderson developed a great shot his senior year off an elbow post but this is his jr year). Janson, like Johnstone, had alot of game but had trouble beating the best guys. Clark and Spony are talented young wrestlers. Hieber's career ended later this season due to concussion syndrome. Pucillo would have eaten up the game but limited Talamantes...Preston would easily beat Weakley...Rowlands v Bergman---Wow!
I don't know who would have won this match. I'd take the current squad at 125, 133, 149, 165, 174 and 184. The old bucks have edges at 141, 157, and 197. 285? I'm not touching it. But 174 could be picked the other way; possibly 133 as well.

I would say that Palmer has a little bit more game on the feet. Remember in HS Palmer won his first state title by just taking his opponent down 3 or 4 times and not even turning him.
Anderson once came into the club room and was wrestling with us for some reason, I was really sore the next day.

Anybody check the FULL brackets.
IF
we lose to CMU and then beat West Virginia in the first round of consolation we will come out against the loser of the second round consolation - lower bracket.
This could very well be Iowa.
With all love flowing for Friday the 18th, I hope this does not happen this way.
We MUST beat CMU!!!

DR: I agree that Palmer has more game than Anderson did (until his senior year when he elevated to a higher level).
Mark: Bucks v CMU could go a number of ways. On paper, we seem to have an edge. But CMU wrestles hard. Hopefully, Bucks will be ready to go from the opening whistle.
