If I'm not mistaking this is Squire's 1st loss in his (thus far stellar and impressive) high school career.
There was talk of him, among the circles I run, of him actually making it. I guess we'll have to wait and see with Phillips.

Anyone know what is going on with D. Jones? I believe he played football this year. Is he not wrestling?

Out for the year, tore his MCL (or meniscus, forgetting which it was) in week six of the football season. Played the last four regular season games a playoff game despite that. Had surgery after the season.
Will not wrestler.
DI prospect in football and/or baseball.

Thats really a shame. I saw him as a title contender this year. With Jones and Squires as potential champs and a few breaks at state for the rest of that solid lineup, who knows what could have happened.
Any idea where Jones is looking to go?

The 130 weight class I think will come down to three key players being Squire, Fields and Horner. This will be a battle between the three come state. Fields has the toughest path as he will be paired with the 2/3 from Perry in the quarterfinals plus either Sulzer or the 2/3 from Perry in the semifinals. If he survives that he will have to face the Perry district champion.

With Squire this just shows you how hard it is to go undefeated for all 4 years of high school wrestling. Look at C.P. - one bad match against Martin was all it took for him to lose that perfect streak. Squire definately flies under the radar due to the closeness of his bouts.
Remember Mike Miller of Uniontown Lake was a 3x state champion but often overlooked in his class due to a guy name Schlatter. This goes with Squire often forgotten in the big names thanks to Stieber.

This may or may not be the appropriate thread in which to address this, but this leaves us with Hunter Stieber and Chris Phillips as viable candidates for a four year undefeated career. Wadsworth stepped up the schedule this year, kudos to them, and Squire's possibility for going undefeated fell by the wayside, but it will make him better in the long run.
Hunter Stieber will be lingering around David Taylor's weight next year. That would truly be a great matchup, but I would have to favor Taylor. If he does go undefeated next year (this is all assuming he makes it the rest of this year unscathed), I would give him a good shot. The only person in the state I see being able to touch Chris Phillips after this year would be Nick Mills. I am not aware of what Monroeville's schedule looks like for the remainder of the year, but this year's crop of strong 171's all graduate this year (Roddy, Thomusseit, Roth, and Witt) all graduate, leaving only Mills. I don't see Mills ever beating Phillips, but he would be the last guy left after this year's seniors who is even in Phillips' realm.

Mills didn't look so hot at the State Duals, I know it was some of the best in the state but he got beat by Thomusseit who was beaten by Phillips so if you want to use that logic reasoning....I don't see Mills touching Phillips

Mills had a somewhat close match with Phillips at Brecksville 6-3. However Phillips is on a different level than almost everyone in the state and I don't see him being touched ever in the state.

I've said before that Phillips is a once in a generation type of talent.
Certainly, an upperwt true frosh with his level of skill is unprecedented. But, if history has demonstrated one thing it's that incredible frosh become accomplished upperclassmen who often end up losing at some point to other incredible frosh. Is there another Chris Phillips lurking who could end up beating him? I doubt it. But when Brian Roddy was a terrific frosh upperwt, who could have imagined that by his senior year there'd be a frosh from a tiny D3 school that would beat him convincingly in the finals of the Ironman? It would have sounded ridiculous. Yet it happened. There's always some new hungry kid coming up that will make a statement.
Having said that: Phillips isn't going to lose to anyone in Ohio after this season.

I'm not suggesting that Mills will ever seriously challenge Phillips, let alone beat him. I'm just saying that he is the only one with a prayer after this year.
BTW, other than losing to Roth, what did Mills do badly at the state duals?
