Last season, Ohio produced the most AA's in D1 of any state. Let's look at this season's group weight class by weigh class.

125: There's no one even ranked that prepped at an Ohio hs.
133: Dan Mitcheff has been ranked in the low to mid teens.
141: J. Jaggers is a returning AA. Drew Lashaway was ranked but will probably tumble out after a bad weekend.
149: Dustin Schlatter, Ryan Lang and Lance Palmer are all ranked top 6 at this brutal weight class. Can one of these guys knock off Metcalf?
157: C.P. Schlatter has looked stronger as the season has worn on. Josh Zupancic has struggled but did place last season.
165: Colt Sponseller appears to be Ohio's best possibility although Kurt Gross has wrestled well. Marcus Effner has a slugger's chance.
174: Steve Luke has national title aspirations while David Erwin has a reasonable shot to place.
184: Iron Mike Pucillo gets an obvious mention but Rocco Caponi has quietly had a very solid year. Chris Honeycutt has burst onto the rankings with some impressive performances for Edinboro.
197: David Bertolino and Jared Villers are both nationally ranked. Matt Koz has lost close matches to some of the top guys. All three have an opportunity to sneak in the top 8.
285: Fox and Bergman dominate this weight class. Porter and Goff are both hanging around the national rankings as well.

Bottom Line: The Buckeye state will likely produce 8-10 AA's.

Do you happen to recall off the top of your head how many Ohio had last year?

Ohio had 12 and PA had 11-12 depending upon how it was counted. Bob Preusse probably knows for sure.

Incidentally, I forgot Max Dean at 165. He deserves mention.

I thought we had 12

141- Lang, Jaggers
149- Schlatter, Palmer
157- Schlatter, Zupancic
165- Penn, Miller
174- Luke
184- Pucillo
197- Bergman
285- Fox

I feel like I am missing somebody, but nothing comes to mind.

Ohio had 12 All-Americans last year.

Come on guys, you know where to go for this info - that really cool website, OhioWrestling.Net!!!

Click on history at the menu at the top and you'll see a link to all NCAA Division 1 All-Americans from Ohio listed by year dating back to 1928 when Floyd Helgerson from Ohio State became the first ever All-American from Ohio.

Or just click this link: http://www.ohiowrestling.net/history/ncaad1aa.html

You've got them. It's archived on this site. Click the "history" tag, above.

10 returnings AAs with the 11th underclassman, Miller, taking a shirt, I believe.

Interesting that all three ranking services have 8 Ohio natives within their top 8. Pretty much the same names are in all three services' top 20.

Win is missing Lashaway and Max Dean.

InterMat, which has rankings due out tomorrow, is missing Sponseller (bet he's in there tomorrow) , and ranks Chine at 184 and Justin Dobies at 285.

Some other names. All rank Bertolino along with Villars and Koz within top 20 at 197. All have Honeycutt along with Pucillo and Caponi at 185. And all rank Porter at 285.

No prob, Steve. I'm glad you remembered!

I've put a ton of info on the history section. If you want to know something about Ohio wrestling history, it's probably there!

Steve, Miller isn't redshirting. He was class of '05, redshirted in the '06 season, AA'ed last year as a redshirt freshman, and now, as far as I know, is sitting behind Stewart/Sinnott (I have seen him at 174, I believe). Hmm... do I know of a certain school in need of a 174? Let's just say if Tom Ryan got Miller to transfer, I would rename my daughter Tom Ryan Costilow.

Pat - I believe that Miller is taking an Olympic Redshirt.

Pat I will do one better than renaming a daughter I will name my unborn son Tom Ryan Ransick. Only if they got a 174 AA.
