Great job, Elliott. Much respect to you for your efforts to get fans to the match. The Buckeyes have wrestled in front of two of the top ten biggest crowds in college wrestling this season. People are paying attention--even if the Plain Dealer isn't.

I have registered for the "Best seats in the House." When do they let the winner know? I don't remember hearing an announcement at the Dual on Friday, but then again, I may have been still in line for hot dogs and drinks when it was made. Lines to get in and at the concession stand were crazy on Friday but it was worth it all to see that crowd.
I still think that we can do better though. High School and Middle School coaches, if you are not wrestling on Friday night, get down to Columbus and bring your team with you. You will not be disappointed.

Prior to National Duals, I thought Iowa and Penn State meets would be blowouts, but now the Penn State meet is veeeeeery intrigueing. Will Triggas be able to beat McKnight again? Will Jaggers & Palmer repeat? Will Johnstone find a way to beat Vallimont? Can Weakley produce a closer match against Davis??? <cool> Let's get a big crowd for this one; we
CAN
beat these guys! <thumbsup>

Triggas must do exactly what he did against McKnight in order to win. I that Humphrey gets the W again. Jaggers vs. Scott is an interesting match, I just think that Jaggers can get it done. Palmer I think repeats against Jenkins who was destroyed by Metcalf.
Vallimont hasn't lost this year yet according to InterMat and that could be a tall task for Johnstone. I think that Sponseller can widen the score between him and Rella with his never-ending gas tank. Picazo and Weakley need to keep the gap closer. Pucillo and Bergman will win handily just like last time.
Ohio State matches up to well with them and should repeat the W.

Everyone thinks Palmer will destroy Jenkins because Metcalf did, but if it weren't for that five-point move Palmer had the first time, it would have been a pretty close match. I think OSU has to be careful with Strayer and Jenkins, two dangerous guys. There was some mention of Strayer possibly not wrestling, does anyone know what that is all about? And I think Johnstone knows Vallimont and his great single leg attack by now, so hopefully OSU can come up with a counter for it. I'm just afraid Vallimont is too rough for Jason. He had Vallimont's leg up in the air and he did a sommersault and nearly wrenched Jason's elbow with a scissor type move on his arm.

I think Palmer if he stays in better position against Jenkins he should be able to ward off the takedowns. Palmer did have a nice low double at the end of that match to seal the deal. Jenkins is dangerous and so is Scott/Strayer. If Ohio State gets the momentum they should be able to pull out another win.

yes the crowd made it a blast as a fan in the ever so close lost - the only thing it was a like a quicky - the zist in the ride home was not there - a WIN Friday might be a different ride - of course no one will be able to recreate the thrill as it is not allowed on any TV for recording so be sure to gather all the smell and sound and viewing into your memory bank

Bubba Jenkins is a great talent but he fell apart against Metcalf in a manner that has to be demoralizing. He's either hurt or mental mush right now. I think the odds are pretty good that they wrestle a backup. Incidentally, Jason Bryant, a well informed source in the wrestling ranks, made a point of telling posters on themat.com that Jenkins has a significant knee problem.
If Jaggers wins, the Bucks should win. If he loses, it's going to be real tight.
McKnight is not going to tie up with Triggas. I look for him to stick to leg attacks and to avoid bottom. I believe this match will be close. If Triggas can get a takedown, I think he wins.

First of all, I don't understand why some people still think we're the underdog here. As far as I'm concerned, we're not. We're the team to beat. Now it's time to capitalize and improve on what we've did at the National Duals.
125: I think it will be a much closer match because chances are McKnight will not get thrown again. McKnight is streaky anyway. He can do well against the top wrestlers (2-0 against Falck in their last dual and I think he beat Donahoe last year) and then can get beat by lesser opponents. I think Triggas, now with the confidence in this matchup, takes a victory by decision. 3-0 Ohio State
133: The fact that this is a dual will not help Humphrey as it will give him a minimal amount of time to recover after weigh-ins. Still, he'll win by a decision. 6-0 Ohio State
141: I think Penn State will send out Garrett Scott here. Scott is dangerous, to say the least. If Jaggers can wrestle amped up he'll take a decision but this is, IMO, the biggest match of the dual. If Jaggers wins, Ohio State wins. If he doesn't, Penn State might get the upper hand. 9-0 Ohio State
149: I understand that Jenkins looked bad against Perry but wrestling a national champ can make guys look bad. By contrast, Jenkins looked very good against Palmer. If Jenkins is at 100% this is a toss-up. If Jenkins doesn't wrestle, Ohio State probably gets a bonus point here and I don't see Penn State having a chance to win the dual. 12-0 Ohio State
157: Vallimont is very good (split with Palmer last year) but I didn't realize he was undefeated. Johnstone is wrestling well and I think he's turned the corner from going close with everyone from Crenshaw to Henning to getting wins in tight bouts. Vallimont will still take a decision here. 12-3 Ohio State
165: It's a real possibility that Sponseller, the only undefeated wrestler left, may end up being the best 165 in the nation even as a true freshman. He is that freakish of a talent. Perry worries me more than Tannenbaum because Perry's strength is on the mat and Colt's is on his feet. Still, he hasn't defeated all that many top-level opponents yet so let's take one match at a time. Rella is very tough but isn't the "immovable object" and Sponseller is the "unstoppable force." Hence, a Sponseller win. 15-3 Ohio State
174: It would be great if Picazo could hold Erwin to a decision. To do that he'll either need to find a way to score or stay away from being on the bottom. 15-7 Ohio State
184: Pucillo beat Bomberger by technical fall, then Iowa's wrestler beat Bomberger by technical fall, which leads me to believe there's something up with Bomberger. Expect at least a major decision here. 19-7 Ohio State
197: Weakley is doing alright for being a true freshman thrown out into Big 10 competition. Davis wins soundly though and I think he gets the major again. 19-13 Ohio State
285: Bergman does what he usually does and wins a one-sided major decision (or more) again over Laboranti. 23-13 Ohio State

Buckeyes match up way to well with Penn State not to win especially with the momentum they have going for them.
Dan,
Metcalf is at 149 not Perry there. I think that Palmer gets Jenkins again.
I agree that Perry worries me more than Tannenbaum due to his ability to turn and ride on top. We saw how hard he can be to take down also.

Keys to this match will be 141 and 149 as well as limiting bonus points at 197. Another Triggas win would be gravy and I do think it will be close.
DC: Perry's cutting a lot of weight but he hasn't yet gotten down to 149. Incidentally, Metcalf is not a defending national champ in case it was simply a name thing. Just having some fun.
ps. I love Sponseller and feel he can be competitve with anyone at the weight class. But a motivated, energetic Perry probably shuts down Spons. I still want to see Colt against some of the upper echelon 165's as well before throwing around the notion of him being a national champ. That's premature. I will say that Kurt Gross has wrestled well since Spons beat him. That win looks more impressive in light of this fact.
