Great win for Ashland over a very tough opponent. Heidelberg is ranked #6 in the nation in Division 3 and has an 8-2 record. I see there were almost all decisions in this dual which means there was some great wrestling in Tiffin last night.

That does look like an excellent match. Bradberry over Johnhenry was big; so was Kanaga over Sanchez. Thanks to Coach Kowatch for posting.

I was also curious as to what would happen between Pflug and Abdur-Rahman.

Also, it appears the Heidelberg's third-string heavyweight won last night. Neither of their top two wrestled. What depth for a D3 program.

Pflug-HC vs Abdur-Rahman-AU, 1-1 with :30 to go, Rahman 2nd stalling call, 2-1, :02 Rahman tries throw, TD Pflug, would have been fun to see in OT, Heidelberg did a great job, under the lights, crazy (good) fans, it was what a dual meet should be.

Sorry I missed it... Instead of blowing a whistle there, I was driving to Chicago in the blizzard. Went 15 mph on the turnpike for over 3 hours. Oh boy. Got into Chicago at 2 am. :(

While Heidelberg did some lineup shifting for whatever reasons (at heavyweight), apparently so did Ashland. Justin Ferguson, an All-American last year at 174, has returned to that weight class and Josh Ohl, the Eagles' starting 197 pounder was not in the lineup. That's why you see Travis Popham at 184 and Jordan Job at 197.

Last week Ashland lost only six bouts to four against Cleveland State and two of the losses were by one point. All matches were decisions except a 19-9 major decision by Abdur-Rahman over CSU backup Castillo and a pin by Hughes over Ohl. I think if that dual was wrestled again both results would be very different because Abdur-Rahman versus Michaels (the starter) would be a great bout and while Hughes is very good, he's not a pin better than Ohl (who went 7-5 with Logan Brown in another dual that day).

It was a great crowd and they saw a competitive match under the light. The out of division dual puts pride on the line, but not seeding for qualifing tournaments. Both teams shifted around the line up to protect their athletes with so few weeks left in the year. Ohl did weigh in but didn't wrestle as there was no need to chance injury with the match in hand. We held out three starters as well. Fechko, Dan Jonhenry, and Bowers who will all return within a week. Good luck to Ashland the rest of the way.

Ohio wrestling fans are the winner when our best programs take each other on. Coach Kowatch and Coach Miller are to be congratulated for making this dual happen.
