No details, but the OSU website says they won 20-13. 13 points sounds like Indiana won 3 or 4 matches, which sounds like a good night for OSU. We will have to wait for the details, but they won.

This should count as Sponseller's signature win that vaults him into serious discussion for high AA status.

Ethan you're right. By comparison, #2 Marable beat Coughlin 5-2, and #4 Lewnes beat him 4-3. And Colt does them one better with a 7-3 win. After Purdue, Tannenbaum; and at home, which won't hurt his chances.

There's no doubt in my mind that Sponseller is one of the top five in the country at this weight. Everything depends on what happens with Perry. Perry can dominate every wrestler at this weight when he's on his game.

I watched Tannenbaum last night and have several times on video. He's a great talent but he paces himself. It's possible he beats Colt the first time but I guarantee that Sponseller will beat him in a rematch. Sponseller's mindset makes him tougher on opponents the second time around.

Tyler Safratowich from Minny beat Jake Kerr 4-3 last night when he was awarded a takedown late in the match. Saf is pretty good and he got a lucky call. That should give some indication of how tough Spons is.

Hank, if you watched Tannenbaum last night, why did Illinois chose neutral in the 3rd when it was 1-0? Is Tannenbaum that tough on top, or is the Illinois kid that bad on bottom? It seemed like he lost any chance of beating Tannenbaum since, from what I was reading on the text coverage, he wasn't close to scoring a TD during the first 2 periods?

I have no idea why Smith-Bergsrund took neutral, and then didn't shoot the whole period. You are down 1-0, take neutral, and don't shoot?

Jack and Pat:

Tannenbaum is a good rider and has wrestler Smith-Bergsrud before. My guess is he was able to ride him the last time they wrestled.

Keep in mind that if Tannenbaum keeps him down for one minute--which isn't that hard to do in college as you can sit on the hips for awhile--the score is now 2-0. Even if Smith-Bergs subsequently escapes, there's 50 seconds to go and the score is now 2-1 with riding time. Unless you're sure you can get out fast, the smart thing is to start neutral and try to get a takedown and a rideout. As Pat pointed out, the Illini wrestler needed to press the attack harder. He didn't really do enough to even get a stalling call.

That's a statement win for Sponseller, who shows more and more every match that I'm dead wrong about him. He has a legit arguement for being top three at 165 this year in both the Big Ten and the NCAAs. And nothing he does would surpirse me at this point.

Order four, "Crow": up and hot!

You should not doubt. Anything less than 4x, undefeated and two, perhaps three golds, is where he's going!!! Notice that it's not what he's shooting for...it's what he's getting! We have room for one more on the Spoon Bandwagon!!!

Hank, I see what you are saying, but if it were me, I would try to escape during the dual meet to be able to use that knowledge at tournament time. The same thing happened to Johnstone vs. Henning. Jason chose neutral & failed to take Henning down, and lost 1-0. Personally I would be using the dual to see if certain things worked or didn't. If Johnstone wrestles Henning in the Big 10's where a berth to the NCAA tournament is on the line & has the same choice, what does he do?

The lady will have the linguine with white clam sauce and a Coke with no ice...I'll have the CROW please.

BTW, did you have a healthy serving after I the Iowa dual?

Also, you don't need to make any room on the bandwagon, thanks. I like the way he wrestles, but he wears the wrong uniform for me to ever be a "fan".
