Congrats Harry!

Is he wrestling through the Olympics, then?

Quote from Ben Golden's post:

"Congrats Harry!

Is he wrestling through the Olympics, then?"

….to answer the above question, it all depends on the results of the Olympic Trials on April 10th. My understanding is that Harry will be competing at 75kg (165lb.). Remember, Harry has wrestled 71 kg. (154 lb) for the last three years when won the world team trials at that weight all three years. In 2012 Olympics Harry competed at 66kg. (145.5). Andy Bisek, 2x World Bronze medal winner, is the top ranked U.S. wrestler at 75kg., and has already advanced to the best two out of three finals in the trials. Harry will have to win the challenge tourney and then face Bisek. If Harry beats Bisek then he will be the U.S. rep for the 75kg. weight class at Olympics in the Rio de Jenario in August. So in short, Harry’s acceptance of the coaching position has no bearing at all on his pursuit of Olympic gold if he wins the trials, which will be a major feat in and of itself due to the fact that Bisek has already won the past two world medals at this weight, and Harry is moving up a weight class in order to challenge him.

Last September, Coach Dave Bergen and I, went out to Las Vegas together to root for Harry, as we both felt that this may be Harry’s last World Championships, and the fact that the Worlds were being hosted in the United States. Harry wrestled an outstanding tournament at the Worlds with two very impressive wins, one over the reigning World Silver Medalist. Harry has been an integral part of USA wrestling-Ohio throughout the years, and I trust he will continue to support wrestling in northeast Ohio in his new role. Coach Dave Bergen and I are very proud of Harry and congratulate him on this opportunity as he enters the northeast Ohio high school coaching ranks. We now have two Olympians as coaches at the high school level in northeast Ohio (Nate Carr Sr. ‘88 Olympic Bronze medalist is the head coach at Massillon Perry High School).
Check out this Jim Donovan of WKYC TV reported the news. It’s a pretty cool.
