Looks like Eds has all but wrapped but there 12th consecutive team title qualifying 11 wrestlers. They have the potential to have four state champions and many more placers. Perry seems to be in the driver seat for state runner-up with four potential finalists and another high placer.
Interstingly enough Cincinnati Elder right now seems to be in a great position to place high in the state tournament qualifying the second most with 8 wrestlers. They have two potential finalist/champs and another placer. However Westerville North could have 3 finalists and 2 champions that could be enough to put them in 3rd place.
Individual breakdown and more in depth team analysis to come later.

If Kline (Westerville North) is indeed the front-runner for a state championship, one has to like his chances given the weight class. Granted, anything can happen, but I do believe he is the only returning placer.
His District title was not won so easily, but then again, we are talking the State title...nothing will be easy this weekend.
Good luck to him, Kyle "the Dome" Dilley and JT Rice as they persue their goals this weekend.

103- Sako and Mines seem to be the favorites. Mines has a win over Mitch this year. Corrill will try to gun down Mines in the semi; however, he better watch for Ague in the opening round.
112- Clark is opposite of White and Mitcheff. White v Mitcheff is the projected semi.
119- This weight is a total mess. Three headline first round matches - Fuller v McCombs, Davis v Marks, and Comar v Wallander. I like Henry over Robinson in the final, but this could go any number of way.
125- Couple superlative first rounders in Foore/Fayette and Mattingly/Sanders. Harger/Genetin and Pretty/Mattingly as notable quarters. I like Genetin over Pretty when all is said and done.
130- Squire/Fields is a state finals rematch likely in the semi. Will Fields go 4-0 in semis, or will Squire be able to win title #2? Horner/Sulzer is the likely other semi, rematch of an MIT final. Horner has lost both state semis in his career to date. Sulzer v McCormick is a first rounder to watch. I like Squire over Horner in "game 5".
135- Speelman's going to have to run a gauntlet just to get to the final against Palmer - a tough soph Grandominico, 2x previous SQ Mencini, and state placer Duffy. Palmer wins this tough.
140- People thought 130 was the feature; not so fast, this is. Messerall and Lijoi as a first round bout, winner having to meet up with Herrick. Birt v Spicel is the other quarter up top. I think Spicel clears the top. Sheppard has an easier path in his quarter. Lang v Habat is a state finals caliber match in the quarter, just to have to beat Sheppard in order to get to the state final. Lang v Gordon is a tough first rounder too, Gordon pulled off a 4/1 upset last year.
145- Jameson wins #4, 16th to do so. Rigel v Demas should be the semi down bottom to see who is the runner-up.
152- Gobin v Greco is a 4/1 upset special potentially. I like Dong over Heflin in the weight, though semis with Dong/Goins and Heflin v Ewing/Greco/Gobin could intrigue.
160- Kline is the favorite in this weight, which may be more open then people think. What to make of this Taylor kid, only one loss on the year? Can he beat Rice to hit the semi? Can the freshman Coleman make some noise? Bryan v Rhodes is an interesting first rounder.
171- Roddy is a clear favorite here. I like Faiella as second best.
189- This weight has played itself into one of much intrigue and competition. Tumlin v Lamberg as a battle of undefeateds is my pick, and I'll take Lamberg. Isley v Jontony, Saraniti v Nelisse, Newburg v Quehl are three tough first rounders.
215- Scales has a relatively tough path to the finals - Smith (Beavercreek) as a quarter, Rasho as a semi. Cogar has the easier path down in the lower half. I'll take Cogar to win Barberton's first title in forever and a day.
285- Injuries have really messed things up in this weight. You have two 4/1 matchups, actually three of the, where I would call the 4 winning not really an upset. A very unintelligent guess at a state final is Kline v Meder.

103: The most intriguing match-up in the first round is the Corrill (Moeller) vs. Ague (Fitch) bout and there could be an upset right away. However I do believe that Corrill should advance to face Ralston (Southview). A Sako (St. Edward) vs. Hannan (Perry) should be the highlight match of the quarterfinal round but Sako should be a comfortable favorite here. The semifinal match between Kory Mines (Maple Heights) and Corrill will be the match to watch as the state finals are on the line. The finals bout between Sako and Mines should be a great one to watch and a lot closer than originally anticipated by the prognositcators.
1st: Gus Sako (Lakewood St. Edward) over Kory Mines (Maple Heights)
3rd: Justin Toth (Painesville Riverside) over Jake Corrill (Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller)
5th: Nick Hannan (Massillon Perry) over Uland Ralston (Lorain Southview)
7th: Shawn Ague (Austintown Fitch) over Garrett Manley (Holland Springfield)
112: In one of the most anticipated rematches in recent history, Jamie Clark (St. Edward) and Sam White (Massillon Perry) will renew the rivalry that stands at 2-2. Clark has the easier side of the bracket and should clear the semifinals no problem. White will have to battle Steve Mitcheff (Elyria) in the semifinals in a battle of previous state champions at 103 from the last two years. These three are cleary heads and tails above the competition. In the end though Clark should be able to claim his first state title after he fell in the finals last year to White.

5th: David Bolger (Strongsville) over Don Herrington (Cincinnati Sycamore)

119: In what could be the most topsy-turvy weight class of all. There is still no one wrestler that stands above the field of wrestlers that can be called the leading candidate. So without further ado I think the quarterfinal match between Fuller (Waite) and Marks (Brecksville) will be a battle but I like Fuller to prevail. The freshman phenom Shivener (Spingboro) faces what many felt as the leading candidate for state champion in Henry (Solon) this match will be a battle, I expect Henry to win by the slighest of margins. The bottom half is just as unpredictable but in the end I expect to see Robinson (St. Ignatius) take on Ciccarello (Brush) in what will be a great semifinal bout. I expect Robinson to win in this one. When it is all said and done I think that Henry will use his length advantage over Robinson to win the state title in a wild bout that will be a true clash of styles.

DI this year is suspect at best. DII and DIII are pretty solid across.
The DI group at 160 last year was pretty good with Nemec, Foore, Mahon, etc. The year before was even better with Ciraky, Popham, Bradberry, Gaier, et al.

125: Two prolific pinners. Two fantastic seniors both on a mission for a state title. Two sides of the brackets will clash in a battle for state supremacy. Dan Genetin (Perry) on the top of the bracket. Tom Pretty (Elder) on the bottom of the bracket. Both of these wrestlers have very tough quarterfinal matches. Genetin faces Pierce Harger (Moeller) a wrestler that defeated him 3-0 at the state duals but I think Genetin finds a way to win a close match. Pretty must battle Scott Mattingly (Lake) who owns a victory of Genetin earlier this year at Medina but I believe that Pretty finds a way to win and move into the semifinal round and Genetin exacts revenge on Harger from his previous loss to Harger. In what should be a dynamic finals bout I like Tom Pretty to win his first state title in what should be a barn burner of a match.
1st: Tom Pretty (Cincinnati Elder) over Dan Genetin (Massillon Perry)

130: This weight features 1 part of the tale of two wrestlers. This wrestler has fallen short of the ultimate goal in wrestling each of the past three years. Could this be his year or will be another so close but yet so far from obtaining the utlimate goal and glory in the coveted state title. Ryan Fields (Lakota West) will have to do battle with last year's state champion Brad Squire (Wadsworth) in a semifinal do or die bout that has a lot on the line. The bottom half has the state runner-up in Nick Sulzer (St. Edward) facing off with the talented Seth Horner (Perry). Horner got the best of Sulzer at Medina in overtime and I think we will see much of the same. Squire and Fields will be a battle to the finish but I see Squire being able to win a very close scoring bout between fantastic wrestlers before moving on to win his second state title over Horner.
1st: Brad Squire (Wadsworth) over Seth Horner (Massillon Perry)
3rd: Ryan Fields (West Chester Lakota West) over Nick Sulzer (Lakewood St. Edward)
5th: Alex Latham (Sylvania Southview) over Garland McCormick (Akron Kenmore)
7th: Frank Calarco (North Royalton) over Dalton McHenry (Elyria)
135: In what is an amazing lineup of talent on the top half one wrestler will have to defeat three projected state placers in a row in order to make his way into the state finals. Josh Speelman (Mansfield Madison) must navigate his way through a landmine of a bracket where he will face Joe Grandominico (Olentangy) in the first round. Next Speelman will have to face Mike Mencini (Twinsburg) who has just one loss this year and that was at Brecksville. If he again survives that match he must defeat the Fairfield district champion John Gallagher (St. Xavier) and finally if he wins that match his reward will be wrestling in the state finals against none other than Collin Palmer (St. Edward). Palmer again this year has dominated his way through the season and is undefeated much like his brother was in his junior year. Palmer should be an overwhelming favorite here to win his third title and put him in line for his fourth title next year.

3rd: Mike Mencini (Twinsburg) over John Gallagher (Cincinnati St. Xavier)

140 - In what will be a weight class that will be remembered for the ages a great mass of talent as assembled here at the 140 pound weight class. There are of count 8 state placers from past years and in total 11 state qualifers from years past as well. The first match of the 140 pound weight class will feature state placer Jared Lijoi (Lake) who was 5th last year 145 lbs. and is now at 140 but he was only 4th at his district and will have to wrestle Caleb Messerall (Worthington) who was 8th in 2006 at 135 lbs. If Messerall wins that match he will have to face state placer Alex Herrick (Waite). On the bottom side of the bracket the most talked about quarterfinal match will be Kyle Lang (Brecksville) against David Habat (St. Ignatius) in what could be a state finals bout in most years. I like Habat to win a close one over the very dangerous Lang. Your finals will be a rematch of last year's 135 lb Perry district finals between David Habat and Richie Spicel (Brunswick). This match will be another close bout but in the end Richie Spicel will add a state title this year to go with the one he won in 2005 as a freshman.
1st - Richie Spicel - Brunswick over David Habat - Cleveland St. Ignatius
3rd - William Sheppard - Akron Kenmore over Kyle Lang - Brecksville Broadview Heights

145 - This weight has the other wrestler in the tale of two wrestlers. This one has won three consecutive state titles at 103, 119 and 135. Tony Jameson (Austintown-Fitch) has wowed the crowd since freshman year with his trademark funk and flare. Jameson is a big time wrestler and will surely cruise to his third state title here. Jameson's toughest opponents are on the opposite side of him and lie in the waiting. T.J. Rigel (Tecumseh) who has taken Jordan into overtime this year is the leading contender to be bridesmaid this year to Jameson. A terrific bout between Rigel and Josh Demas (Westerville North) should ensue for the opportunity to wrestle Jameson in his final bout. However when it is all said and done Tony Jameson will walk away as the 16th four time state champion in OHSAA history and just the third in Division I history.

152 - When we talk about some of the best wrestlers in Ohio, Jesse Dong (Westerville North) is often overlooked. He was after all 2nd last year to Kevin Hardy at 145 and this year he really shocked people with a huge win over Coby Boyd but still he is overlooked. Dong will clear through the quarterfinals with relative ease where he will have to face Zach Goins (Elyria) in what could be a good match but expect Dong to win this one and advance on into the finals. On the bottom side in the first round watch out for the Louis Greco (Austintown-Fitch) vs. Eric Gobin (Moeller) opening round match and a 1/4 upset here. I like Greco to upset Gobin in the first round of the state tournament. Nick Heflin (Perry) who failed to qualify last year for state has been on a roll all year and will be the likely finals opponent for Jesse Dong but state placer Brett Ewing (Miamisburg) stands in his way of the finals. However in the end I like Dong to really control his opponents including Heflin in the finals as he captures his first state title and what should be the first of two for Westerville North on the day.

160 - In what is the weakest weight class in all of Division I this year. This weight has one wrestler that is undefeated and should be able to win his first state title. Chris Kline (Westerville North) is the odds on favorite to win the state title after taking 4th last year at 152. His main challenger could come from the unknown Ethan Taylor (Cuyahoga Falls) who has slipped under the radar all year long. A Taylor will have to face state qualifier JT Rice (Hilliard Davidson) and the winner should advance to the finals. Another wrestler that could be a threat is Kyle Dilley (Lancaster) who wrestled Kline close last week losing 5-4. Keep an eye for the freshman Tylan Coleman who has come on strong since coming back from an injury and he could stun some people at the state tournament.

171 - If there ever was a weight that were was a kid that was such an odds on favorite that he wouldn't he have a match that went the distance. This is that weight anchored by Brian Roddy (St. Eds) who has recovered from an earlier funk this season and since then he has dominated all in his path. Roddy will have no challengers on his side and if anyone can go the distance with him I will be surprised. His main challenger will come from Jason Faiella (Central Crossing) who leads the charge out of the Columbus district. Faiella will most likely be challenged by either Aaron Winemiller (Steele) or Jefferson Ajayi (Shaker Heights) I expect Faiella to win both those matches. When the tournament is said and done Brian Roddy will go down as a two-time state champion and four-time placer at 171 lbs a feat that is remarkable in its self.
