Cubberly v. Phillips?
This question was posed yesterday to me, and I would love others' input...
Any other fantasy match-ups? =)

Don, I honestly think that Porter wins that match. Scales may, and I say may, be more powerful but Porter really impressed me this weekend.

what do we think of my match? Eric Cubberly v. Chris Phillips...to who was Cubberly's only loss? I bet it was a caaa-razy match!

Cubberly only loss came in the semi-finals of the Ironman tournament and it was by injury default.
One has to favor Phillips in that match.
My match I would like to see right now would be a healthy Coby Boyd vs. Jedd Moore.

oh. i guess an injury default wouldn't quite be a caa-razy match! lol
3 of those four young-ins from Munroeville are undefeated, but what's their schedule like? There were a few boys at the Owens district I know of that come in undefeated and didn't even make it out...I'm thinking Almanza of PH for sure...I don't remember the others..

Not too sure about their other tourneys but Monroeville is at the Ironman which is as tough as it gets. To be undefeated after that is amazing.

Monroeville also wrestles at Brecksville. let's not forget you are comparing a freshman against a senior also. With that being said, and having been the unfortunate witness of watching both wrestlers dismantle one of my best guys before...I'm favoring Phillips as well right now. By the time hes a senior it wont even be up for discussion.

yes Eric Cubberly lost in Ironman semis to eventual champ Josh Condon from Georgia----- but although i know he hurt his ribs in the match my bracket shows
he lost to Condon, 6-1
. Cubberly then injury forfeited his wrestleback match to Mannier from SPG.
The 3 Monroeville wrestlers who won Ironman titles and are undefeated all deserved to be undefeated, after going thru rugged
Brecksville
tourn, too.
At
Ironman,
# 3 in nation Hunter Stieber had to beat nationally ranked Carter from Virginia to win it, Carter made the Beast finals too. Hunter Stieber had
tough bracket
at Ironman, also
had to beat Div II finalists Mitch and Sako
to get to the finals !!
At 119 in
Ironman
, Logan Stieber ranked # 1 in the nation beat California 3rd placer Orona, then Papesh from Aurora, and in the finals beat nationally ranked Sam White, so his road not easy either.
The 3rd undefeated Monroville wrestler Chris Phillips at 171 beat natioanlly ranked Pelteir from Blair, Thomusseit from SPG, and in the finals beat nationally high ranked Roddy of st Eds
to win the Ironman
. Phillips ranked by AWN # 5 right now, and as Brian Brakeman reminded me at state, its probably too low (but he is only freshman, the 4 ahead of him are all seniors and are all HAMMERS).
So the 3 Monroville undefeateds are all legit ! (if we had one division with a 32 man bracket, or even larger, at state we wouldnt have to "dream" of matches we'd like to see,
we would actually see them
.)

you know...i think it'd be interesting to see something like this. Of course it'd be too much for a high school schedule, but it'd be interesting. So many things would play out differently and we still would get the what ifs but it would be fun and exciting. I think it'd be interesting if there was something like a State Tri meet where the champions from DI face the champions from DII and so forth to determine which division of wrestlers are in fact, the best division.

Chue: Some group...I'm thinking the OAC...ran a post-season state tournament last year that was touted as an opportunity for Ohio's best to compete against each other. But it didn't work out that way. Most of the competitors were (and, again, this is what I remember...memory being a subjective thing) non-state placers.
I love the idea of a one class state meet because it would be such a boon to hardcore fans. But the reality is that we have a great setup currently in Ohio and it would probably do more harm than good if we changed it. Heck, I still hate the fact we're placing 8 kids at state. That was enough change for me.

Hank,
It would be awesome if it could go through. But its probably too much strain for them and like you said, the set-up right now works very well for the state. But yeah, it's kind of weird to see how of the 16 people in the bracket, half of them will place and that you can go 2-2 and place. <crazy>
