If anyone wants to listen to wrestling online, I'll be calling the Ohio State tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the radio. You can listen online at www.wbtclive.com or on Tune In (WBTC 1540 AM).
We'll be calling Tuscarawas County teams primarily, but if we're on air and don't have a local wrestler up, I'll be looking for good matches to call.
Good luck to all of the wrestlers this weekend!

I've seen lots of state tournaments but never listened to it on the radio. There's a first time for everything. Good luck, Jason!

Brady, yes, we will be. I've been down there before but never doing the primary call. It'll be fun, but we've got a number of area athletes there and trying to watch all 10 mats and call the matches will be challenging.
Can't wait and good luck to all of your wrestlers.

Jason,
You’re going to do awesome. Just let it rip. Your passion for the sport is what’ll shine through and make it a great broadcast.
One thing I learned when we did the full-length broadcast is that you have to be okay with not being able to see, cover, and commentate on everything. It can feel kind of crazy with a ton of mats out there. We had a three-man broadcast for the semifinals and finals in which one of us would focus on each division. Once we got used to focusing-in on our matches, it made things run really well.

Day 1 and my team went 2-0. Jordan Crace won easliy 9-2 while my 220, Bruno Pattison, upset the 2nd ranked DII wrestler 3-1. Bellefontaine has only had 1 semifinalist in school history, in 1988, so tomorrow couple be a making history day for the program.
Excited to see my guys get after it!!

Great seeing you yesterday Brady & JLJ.
For those who could not attend, there are some matches - with more to come - posted onto Zeb Miller's GOhioCast YouTube channel.
Great action! Looking forward to today and tomorrow!

Mark, good to see you as well.
Brady, good luck to your wrestlers, unless Pattison comes up against Kole Aubiel from Claymont. :)
I think the most interesting match today, regardless of Division, is Olivia Shore v. Alec Homan. Can Shore punch her ticket to the semis and become Ohio's first female state placer? She already became the first female to win a championship side match yesterday.
Looking forward to some more great action today. We'll be calling matches today starting at 10:00 A.M. on www.wbtclive.com.
Given the schedule today, and the fact we had a number of local wrestlers go 2 and barbecue yesterday, we'll be sending it back to the station during dead periods.

Brady, Ethan, Jason, etc.: Awesome job! Rooting for your guys!
Hank: Yep, that's the returning state champ Crace.
---
JLJ is right on with the Shore v. Homan match.
Shore is the real deal. For readers/posters who are unfamiliar with her, she's a girls division national champ.
The wrestler she defeated in the opening round of the state tournament yesterday was the junior Szuhay of Crestwood. He is really outstanding and a returning state placewinner. A supremely tall 106, he took it to the other guys at the Garfield Heights district last weekend, winning a deep and talented weight class featuring, among others, last year's OAC middle school state runners-up at 102 (Frye of Cuyahoga Heights) and 84 (Reineke of Hawken).
Szuhay came out on fire, taking a 7-1 lead. Then, while on their feet, Szuhay left his arms extended, giving Shore an opening for a head-and-arm throw. She took the opportunity and nearly pinned Szuhay with the throw, making it 7-6. Szuhay then escaped to make it 8-6. Shore then took Szuhay down again to make it 8-8 and send it into overtime. In overtime, Szuhay fired in on a double-leg attack but Shore was ready for it and when Szuhay's second hand hit the mat, the takedown was called and Shore's 10-8 overtime comeback was complete.
Homan is an oustanding wrestler also. He won his first three bouts at the OAC middle school state tournament at 96 last year before losing close decisions to the state runner-up Gessler and third placer Brugh in matches to place. That's brutal. To convert that to high school results, Brugh just won the D1 district tournament at Hoover and Gessler just won the D2 district tournament at Wilmington.
Update: Homan won by 4-2 decision over Shore

Crace vs Garr in semis (Crace won 4-3 at Top Gun).
Pattison came back after a poor 1/4’s match to win his consi match 3-1 to make the podium - which was his goal this year after being 0-2 here lst year. So it was a big win for him.
1st time in Bellefontaine’s history we have more than 1 placer in a year (previously had a 3rd in ‘75, 3rd in ‘88, & 8h in ‘10) and these guys are placers 4 and 5. So big results for us. Will enjoy this and (hopefully) next year coaching down here because the lean years are coming after that before we start reaping the work we are putting into the youth program.
