Dan Cosimi added to this discussion on July 17, 2019

In the Junior Boys' Freestyle competition in Fargo, nine wrestlers from Ohio earned All-America honors and two, Angelo Rini and Paddy Gallagher, won national championships. As a team, Ohio finished in second place overall in the fifty-team field, was one of only three states with multiple champions and had the second-most finalists of any state.

Angelo Rini, who just completed his senior year at Saint Edward High School, went 7-0 -- with six wins by technical superiority and one win by 16-11 decision -- to win the Junior Boys' Freestyle National Championship at 126 pounds. Rini earned his third-consecutive All-Ohio honor in March, placing second at the OHSAA Division I State Championships as a senior at 126 pounds after placing fourth as a junior at 120 pounds and fifth as a sophomore at 106 pounds. This coming school year, Rini will continue his academic and athletic careers at Columbia University in the City of New York.

Gallagher earned his second-consecutive All-Ohio honor in March when he won the OHSAA Division I State Championship at 160 pounds after placing third at 152 pounds as a freshman.

Mick Burnett, an incoming senior at Elyria High School, went 6-1 to place second in the nation in Junior Boys' Freestyle at 132 pounds. very nice writeup Dan-- Ohio hangs in there again near the top, consistently top 3 or 4 in Jr free, the elite contest of the tourn. ..nowadays with scholarship wrestlers able to start college earlier the Junior nationals tourn overall not quite as tuff as the 90s, early 2000s, with most elite grad Seniors not participating but it still is a big deal and Ohio has been consistently near the top back then and now.

Illinois has dominated Jr freestyle for a decade and a half, i wonder when & if it will show up in # of college AAs where PA is usually tops followed by Ohio & NJ.

The match between Paddy Gallagher and Cael Valencia was up on YouTube. Pretty back and forth match.
