At the Junior Girls' Freestyle competition in Fargo, Leilah Castro and Andrea Schlabach earned All-America honors, leading Ohio to a 23rd place finish overall in the 43-team field.
Leilah Castro, an incoming senior at New Lexington High School, earned All-America honors by wrestling to a 3-3 record to place sixth in the country at 122 pounds. She won her first three bouts to reach the championship semifinals and guarantee a top six finish before an injury forced her to default out of two of her final three. In 2018, Castro placed fifth at the UWW Cadet Girls' Freestyle World Championships in Croatia after winning the World Team Trials. This spring, Castro was the USA Wrestling-Ohio Junior Girls' Freeestyle State Champion at 134 pounds and the OAC Girls' High School State Champion at 124 pounds.
Andrea Schlabach, who just completed her senior year at Stephen T. Badin High School in Hamilton, earned All-America honors by battling to a 6-2 record to place seventh in the nation at 127 pounds. This spring, she placed second at the USA Wrestling-Ohio Junior Girls' Freestyle State Championships at 134 pounds. This coming school year, Schlabach will continue her academic and wrestling careers at the University of the Cumberlands.
