Discussion Topic: Big 10 Tournament - Kellen Russell v. Manuel Rivera

Anyone see this match for the 141 pound championship? I was watching it and saw probably the most impressive move I've ever seen. With about 50 seconds left in the first period, Russell gets caught out of position. Rivera gets in deep on a shot and Russell whizzers late but almost gets out. Rivera has a good grip on Russell's right ankle. Russell stops for a split second, picks up his left foot, stomps it to the mat, and explodes up and around onto Rivera to get the takedown. I was amazed in real time, but I watched it many times in slow motion on the TIVO. It was sweet. Is this a pretty standard move? I don't see much college wrestling, so maybe it's not too unusual. Is there a particular name for this?
Here's the YouTube video of the match where the move is around the 2:50 mark. Quality is not great, but if you watch to the end of the first period, they play it again in slow motion too.

The rubber knee/limp leg thing that Russell hit was nice. Russell is a great scrambler.

In the interview afterward he said he learned that move from former Blair teammate and now Cornell coach Cory Cooperman.

Ken: I've seen that move attempted by many wrestlers but Russell hit it with style. My jaw also dropped when they showed the replay--very slick.
Ironically, Tyrel Todd attempted a similar counter when Pucillo got in on a low single with about 20 seconds. It was a panic move by Todd as he stopped halfway through it and gave Pucillo a chance to adjust and finish.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go back and watch the Pucillo match again to see Todd's unsuccessful attempt to duplicate his teammate's maneuver.
