I will let Jared or Jason do a better breakdown.

Koontz vs. Meredith - Bucks 3-0
Decatur vs. RBY - PSU MD 3-4
Luke vs. Lee - PSU 3-7
Sasso vs. Jared V. - OSU 6-7 (Jared almost beat Lee but gassed in 3rd and OT)
Cleary/Kinner vs. Pipher - Buck 9-7
Smith vs. Joseph - PSU 9-10
Romero vs. Hall - PSU 9-13
Jordan vs. Brooks - PSU 9-16
Moore vs. Shakur - OSU 13-16 (Rasheed gassed hard against MN kid)
GTG vs. Nevills - PSU 13-19

I think Lee wins this battle with Luke since its at PSU but Luke wins at B10 and Nationals

I might go with Kinner here since he has the ability to potential get a few turns and could get bonus.

The NW kid got Luke flattened and had an arm bar that eventually the ref stopped for potentially dangerous and I had flashbacks to when Micic did the same thing to Luke and totally destroyed him on top. If Lee gets in that position it is going to be bad. Luke had no answer last night and the same the time Micic did it. It is his Achilles heal.

I've got a new respect for Verkleeren as I read somewhere that he is Type I diabetic. Holy bejeezus; wrestling and starting Division I for Penn State with that disease, nothing short of pretty amazing.

I saw him wrestle in the PA state tourney in HS and thought he'd be a dynamic college wrestler but that hasn't happened. Sounds like you've hit on why?

Watching with a buddy and our comments were similar. Thought it was maybe a bit of “Covelli Magic” to get the quick potentially dangerous stoppage there. Luke was getting worked.

I've always been against outright ducking, so I very reluctantly say this: we're not going to win the dual on Saturday night at PSU. It might be better for Luke to pass on this opportunity, opting for a Big 10 championship showdown at a neutral site.

I understand your point of view but that's not how Tom Ryan has done things in the past. He's often been accused of "ducking" because years ago he held out an injured Pucillo against Jake Herbert. But I am positive he'll put Pletcher against Lee. And it's likely we'll see them wrestle three times in total (this season).

Ohio States schedule has been no joke this season. Road duals against Pitt, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and now PSU. Even at home you could add in Virginia Tech, Cornell, and Arizona State. I almost forgot the Cliff Keen. My point is that our guys are battle tested, and Saturday looks to be no exception. On a good night I think we win 125, 141, 149, 184, and 197. Realistically...I’d say we should leave with wins at 125, 149, and 197. If we pull of a W at either 141 or 184 I’d say that we outkicked our coverage so to speak. One guarantee I’ll make for this dual is that Shakur Rasheed will not wrestle. Not sure what I’d wager, but I bet he doesn’t compete Saturday night. My dark horse match goes to heavyweight. If GTG keeps it to a takedown match I give him a shot!

I go back to the Stieber/Retherford scenario. Logan losing that night enabled the staff to come up with a game plan for the BigTens & NCAA, especially due to the tough ride he endured that night. Logan never lost to Zane again. If Luke can't get out from under Lee, the game plan changes for the future matchups.

As a senior and captain I see no way he misses this absent illness/injury.

No way should Luke not wrestle. Buckeyes need to be all in on this match and embrace the challenge. We have not fared well against the Nits (of course, who has). Two years ago was our best opportunity to beat them until Cassar beat Kollin. Jared gave the Bucks a chance at 5 weights, but 157 should be added to that as well. Buckeyes have an outside chance to win but, will they perform, or be swallowed up by the Rec Hall crowd? Good precursor to the Big Ten Championship.

You like Chipotle? I'll willing to wager one Chipotle gift card (minimal amount offered at Kroger) on this. I think he's in and will do well against Moore. For me, it's a style thing. Moore is a bit loose, which could play right into Rasheed's propensity for a cradle. And with his length, why WOULDN'T he be a master at the technique.

BONUS: The loser of this bet can purchase the gift card at Kroger, earn the fuel points, and get money off for gas! It's the craziest win-win loss you'll ever experience.

Didn't TR also sit Bo vs Hall and McKenna vs Carr?

I respect all the reasonable and informed opinions contrary to my suggestion, but I'm going to stick with it.

Most of the opposition to the idea--and most Buckeye supporters would probably agree if they were on this forum--centers around the rather highfalutin notion that "we don't do this sort of thing." It's for those Iowa & Penn State lowlifes, not the noble Bucks. As Dan Bork said, "we have to be all in and embrace the challenge."

A large part of me shares this sentiment: I don't like ducking, we ARE fighters.

But in this particular case, is it really a logical thing to do? I think Luke is a better wrestler and will ultimately win it all, but it's darn close, Lee is fantastic, we all recognize that. It's going to be tough enough, why give your opponent that small but crucial home-mat edge? Let them settle it at the neutral grounds of Rutgers and Minneapolis.

Besides the pride-thing, the only practical argument is Jack Muni's, that sometimes losing to someone allows the loser to come up with a new and better game plan--it's a learning experience. Yes, this is true. He uses as an example Stieber's first match against Retherford. But at that point Zain was a freshman, good but not great, certainly not "The Train" he was to become, still something of an unknown quantity. No reason in the world for Logan not to wrestle that match. But we know who Lee is, we know how difficult this is going to be.

I realize that the idea is not popular, it sticks in my craw also, but I think TR and Luke should perform a "temporary strategic withdrawal" :-) and pass on this opportunity.

This dual always strays far from what's expected, but i'll give a crack anyway. I think all starters go on both sides, with the exception of Romero just because he missed last week and may be a little dinged. Throwing him back against Hall #2 in the country may be piling on what is already a prodigious task.

125: Koontz dec Meredith. 3-0 Bucks
133: RBY maj Decatur. 3-4 PSU
141: Pletcher dec Lee. 6-4 OSU
149: Sasso dec Verkleeren. 9-4 OSU
157: Cleary/Kinner dec. Pipher 12-4 OSU
165: Joseph dec. Smith. 12-7 OSU
174: Hall maj. Romero/Schierl. 12-11 OSU
184: Brooks dec. Jordan. 12-14 PSU
197: Moore dec. Rasheed. 15-14 OSU
285: Nevills dec. GTG. 15-17 PSU

Pretty cut & dry in terms of straight up predictions. If the Bucks hope to have any shot at winning this dual away from home 1-2 upsets need to happen, and bonus must be avoided in the middleweights. Pletcher vs Lee match of the night. I'm going with Pletcher here based on his defense and the ability to not make any mistakes on bottom with the hope he doesn't get ridden too long. Go Bucks.
