Well, after much speculation it has happened. Who do you have Cox or Snyder?

David Taylor is the happiest guy in State College.

Maybe true as the path to the Olympic team is significantly easier now -- but grapevine had him really wanting another shot at Cox.

I know we have loyalty to D.T. as he prepped in Ohio and seems like a great person, but his public comments on Cox during the '16 Olympics were childish and illustrated poor sportsmanship. He had his chance at Cox and lost.

That said, love watching him wrestle and continue to root for him. He has to be top 1 or 2 P4P (Sadulaev) on the planet.

Remember D.T. has missed significant time due to injury. I'm curious what his schedule looks like before Trials to affirm hes at 100%. Does anyone dare to make the huge leap from 74kg to 86kgs between now and the trials???

I have been waiting for this matchup since the 2016 Olympics. Cox was one point away from meeting Sadulaev in the finals. Lost to the Turk 2-1. Now hopefully he gets by Snyder (no ill will towards Kyle, I just think Cox has the best chance to beat Sad).

Let’s be frank: this has many implications.

Cox v. Snyder for best American international wrestler.
TOSU v. PSU RTCs. If Cox wins, This would be bigger for TOSU than Kyle leaving to PSU in the first place.
Has this handed D.T. 86 or can someone beat him?

In the end I think Cox had no more to cut in a healthy fashion and may have had no choice. Hopefully he gets big enough soon enough.

If he gets that far I would love to see Cox v. Sadulaev.

God's plan at this weight class has proven to be interesting.

David Taylor has been tapped to compete at Pan Ams to qualify the weight for the Olympics. This will be his first competition since beat the streets where he sustained his injury last summer. This is likely his only tuneup prior to the trials. You know who’s not happy in state college...Bo Nickal.

With this move what team gives the US the optimum chance to medal at each weight against foreign competition. I don’t know international wrestling well, but for my money I’m going with this Olympic team:

57: Spencer Lee
65: Yanni
74: Dake (this pains me to not select Burroughs)
86: Taylor
97: Snyder
285: Steveson

At 57 guys have done well at the international level their first time through (ie: Colon, Gilman, etc). Spencer demolished the field at Senior nationals, and will have the benefit of coming off the battle tested NCAA season.
65, I don’t think we medal here. It’s so good and so deep of a weight. Zane and JO may be the best, but neither has faired well against foreign competition. Yanni has had some success.
74, Dake is on another level right now. He’s a step ahead of the GOAT.
86, besides Taylor we are pretty thin at this weight. Derringer is too small, Downey is not good enough, and I’m not sure how close to Taylor Myles is.
97, I think Jayden or Kyle will medal; however I think size may play a factor. Jayden hasn’t competed at this weight in a while. Will that take some time?
285: I think Gwiz is descending and Gable is ascending.

Do you know when this qualifier is? I'd imagine this may be the last one left to fill any open spots available for Trials?

I think you're mixing two things.

Pan Am Qualifier is March 13 - 15. We're sending Taylor to qualify the weight for the US for the Olympics. The last chance qualifier for the Olympics is in Bulgaria at the end of April.

Last chance qualifier for the US Olympic Team Trials (top 2 qualify) is March 26 - 28. Also all NCAA champs qualify.

I have as much loyalty for D.T. as he did for Ohio. Which is to say, none.
No doubt he is a great wrestler and is probably a really nice guy but I rooted against him in every NCAA final he participated in.
