Growing up waiting for the Brakeman report to come out was like getting a second shot at Christmas morning. I used to pour over his breakdowns of each weight. I’m not connected with high school wrestling in Ohio anymore, but I still get a kick out of the next generation of forecasters. Whether it’s Josh Lowe, Borofan, or whoever it still is enjoyable to get an analysis from linked in people that love to promote the sport. I have to say that I don’t recall a time when there was so much top heaviness (divisionally) to Ohio wrestling. Maybe it’s the falloff of Graham with Jordan’s retirement, or perhaps just a one off. In looking at all there’s divisions I’m hard pressed to find a predicted champ at any eight in D2 or D3 that I could see winning D1. I don’t see a D’Emilio, Decatur, etc. literally unless your from Ed’s, Elyria, or Brecksville it appears as if the talent pool for the state is incredibly consolidated this year. Shumate and Gallagher (both distant Buckeye commits) look to be the class of the state. I know it’s one guys opinion, but I still found it interesting. By the way, does central Ohio have any D3 programs anymore? Ready...anyone else? That certainly speaks to the immense population growth in Columbus. It’s a boom town!

D-III “in” Columbus:
Amanda-Clearcreek
Bishop Ready
Cardington-Lincoln
Centerburg
Columbus Academy
Danville
East Knox
Elgin
Fairbanks
Fredericktown
Liberty Union
Madison-Plains
Mount Gilead
Newark Catholic
North Union
Northmor
Northridge
Pleasant
Ridgedale
Utica
West Jefferson

If I was so inclined and motivated I would type distance from Columbus in parenthesis after each school. But I’m not.

Their sectional tournament is being held at (Marion) Ridgedale HS.

Hope to see you at Darby.

Concerning the Lowe-down by Josh Lowe...it’s an excellent piece of work. Extremely time consuming. To do all three divisions at that level would put mere mortals into sleep deprivation.

You mentioned the Brakeman Report. One of the things - for me - that was so special was that we lived in a cloud of darkness concerning statewide talent for three months. We travelled less, rarely crossed paths with top wrestlers from other districts, restricted on information due to locality, and were basically primed for the annual forecast to arrive. Waiting on baited breath as it were. And once it hit...BOOM!!! It was all the rage. The ability for one man to synthesize all that data into one volume was amazing.

Today, information spreads like wildfire. Most teams have a social media account of some kind and they announce results after each event. We are made privy to THE BIG RESULT within moments of its completion. Or, in an even more instantaneous manner, the event is live-streamed right to us! And we can see the match rather than just the result! Much different during those dark ages of wrestling results.

Even though that difference exists, it is, as you stated, nice to have someone put it all together in one solid body of work and offer it to the public. It almost makes that one XL t-shirt worth it. ...even for you internet readers.

Brakeman was a trendsetter in every sense and his work shined light where none would have otherwise existed. We are lucky to have someone as talented as Josh Lowe to continue the tradition.
