You guys see the issues this week?
First, their starting 74 or 84 (not taking time to look up the weight) gets credits for FOUR WINS all by medical forfeit at the Open they host, seemingly in an attempt to boost his match and win total for NCAA qualification.
In addition, they get smoked by Mizzou (27-6) and apparently Dresser and Metcalf weren't even at the dual.
Have you ever heard of a head D1 coach skipping a dual, specifically against a ranked opponent? Has to be a first.

Meanwhile Brands and company are laying scorched earth to the D1 dual season and N. Iowa is a top 10 team.
Dresser sure was chesty when he got there, not sure the results and culture seem real healthy.

If we could only get David Carr to come back to Ohio...

Chesty! Never seen that word before other than used to describe a teenage girl with a tight sweater.

Unreal situation.
I was first exposed to this through twitter. Cary Kolat tweeted a link with some strong words attached. Kolat isn't much for small talk. If he speaks; listen. Or in this case, read. And I did.
I was blown away at the underhandedness of this move. Did you know it took place in a high school gym!? That's pathetic!
I retweeted Kolat's tweet on my account and Inside The Circle's account. Shortly thereafter I received three text messages. The first was a wrestling buddy who sent "WTH?" with a picture of or link to Iowa State's wrestling page. The second was my mom asking how I was doing. The third was Coach Kolat himself with a picture of the 184 bracket and his thoughts on the matter.
I expressed that I thought Coach Dresser was better than this. As I've stated - technically, no rules were broken. But the spirit of the rules has been trampled under foot.
I think the coaches should really investigate ways to make conference bids fair across the board and close every loophole possible. At the end of the day, these are college-educated men with YEARS of experience - if they want to push the envelope, they'll find a way to do it. So if they're going to do it, they should be forced to go out of their way to do so, revealing their level of character.
Sadly, I'd bet we'd all be shocked if we knew the way coaching was conducted behind the curtain. Yes, even YOUR favorite coach.

OBTW: Somehow a deal was worked out with a WISC wrestler. He "participated" in one "match" which got him to the level he needed. ...and then that was it!
Just straight bush league.

Dresser was supposed to be on FRL today but there was a technical issue.
I hope he cops to it and says they used the system. That's the only respectable answer.

Gaming the system. Pretty sure that loophole goes away next year.
There are good decisions and bad decisions.
Colbray to 174 is interesting. It is either brilliant or just dumb.

Listened to Dresser on FRL. He admitted he gamed the system.
He basically said other coaches do it, too.
Not sure how I feel about it.

Not sure how different Dresser's behavior was than guys sitting wrestlers to preserve seeds. To be clear--I don't like what he did. But if the rules allow it, he can do it.

Sitting guys is the same as holding a fake event with a bunch of 1 second injury defaults??
I can't speak to NCAA rules but for NFHS events it would fall under Coaching Ethics.
The Rule Book may not stop it but ethics should.
To that point, I wonder how they got officials for this. I would have to bet that the officials knew nothing of it until the event started. I can honestly say that I would never take part in something like this.

Hank - I hear ya. He used the rules to his advantage. I get it.
He also said he hand picked where they put people in the bracket. Crazy.
I wish C.P. or Ben would have asked why he skipped the Mizzou dual.
Side note - really like Askren on there. He made the point today that gaming the system so his guy and the Big XII gets another AQ hurts a conference or school who did it right. Ben correctly pointed out that to some of the smaller programs getting guys to nationals is how they get extra funding, have job security, sell to recruits, etc.
Askren is smart and brings great perspective.

Ethan: Askren makes a great point. And that's why I offer opinions on topics. I'm looking for someone to point out why I might be wrong. Kudos to Jim Behrens for the same reason.

This is not merely "gaming the system". It's blatant cheating.
Once it's explained to them, I expect the Iowa State A.D.(Jamie Pollard, a former All-American runner) and the administration will take some action.

It just strikes me as odd that he would think this would play out without notice and/or drama.
