Makes sense, he was the only one that got to #1 ranking for awhile.

I like Sasso but I strongly disagree with him winning the award. One wrestler was undefeated Griffith and others won their conference championship. How can you be freshman of the year without a conference title? Aaron Brooks of PSU should of also been a finalist for the award. Sasso with a phenomenal freshman year but not the best imo.

Griffith didn't beat the top ranked guy at his weight in Iowa City. You can't understate how much that influenced the country.

I’m sure there’s some sort of criteria. I don’t put a whole lot of stock in the conference tournament theory only because of the depth and breadth of the big ten. Griffith in the Big Ten doesn’t even make the finals. He may not even finish top four on a tough day. I agree that Aaron Brooks should’ve been on the list, but he was dinged for wrestling a partial season more than likely. Who knows, it’s a media award given out by one outlet, so I’m not sure it’s all encompassing.

Lugo might be the weakest #1 in D1 history (If a thing exist)imo. One time AA (8th) and very boring comparable to watching paint dry.I think Sasso will compete for National titles moving forward just didn't have the best freshman year.

I have no problem with the disagreement. But I've seen many worse #1's than Lugo. He's not flashy but he's efficient. Was the kid who won Myles weight last year any better than Lugo? Was the top ranked guy at 184 this season (in the absence of Zahid) better than Lugo?

Hank, I would argue Drew Foster was better overall in his career. I could see your argument about Taylor, although I feel Brooks was the true #1. I might of been to harsh on Lugo being the weakest #1 of all time. Just the weakest for 2020.
