They cut the wrestling program due to budget concerns but are adding volleyball team and building a $3.1M facility for volleyball.
They had 4 NQ and 2 AA on the team this year. Looking through recruiting they had several top 25 guys committed for next year.
Their 125 was ranked 14th at end of the year is only a SO.
Damn shame and with revenue being cut by NCAA could other programs be in trouble?

Jason Bryant was proud grad of ODU, he must be bitter -- im sure they got Billy Martin's Granby kids during golden era the 60s, 70s.. had 3 ncaaa champs in late 60s early 70s--
note, im thinking this virus thing will be the death knell for some wrestling programs. Easy to cut when all events cancelled, out of sight.. certain close to home schools should be sweating it. also AD budgets at major schools under tremendous strain if football impaired. ...these are Bad times.

This is the second program that Sedarian Perry has been a part of that folded up shop. First EMU and now ODU. Good thing he’s a senior.

The 14th ranked 125 is Killian Cardinale. Seems to be a hardworker on a upward trend. Was a spot starter at 133 for them the year before. A kid like that could really develop in the right kind of room. I wonder if there are any elite D1 programs looking for a 125/133...

Big picture--Corona could wipe out a lot of athletic programs including wrestling. Even when the virus has passed it's peak, we won't suddenly return to normal. Kirk Herbstreit doesn't think there will be a college football season next year and we all know the type of revenue it generates at big time schools. That's just one scenario to consider. D1 wrestling could be down to 50 programs in a few years but wrestling won't be the only sport getting cut.
I come home from work every day and strip in my garage. Then I hand my clothes to my glove wearing wife and she tosses them in the washing machine. Then I wash my hands. Then I shower. This could be my routine for the next six months. And I'm lucky. I'm working every day. Lots of folks aren't. Corona is a slow motion sucker punch to the entire world. Shows how vulnerable we are.

Gosh Scott, that’s a great question ????... I think I know a program. One where the 125 has not developed as much as had been hoped and the 133 seems to have difficulty with the cut and may be better suited to move up a weight.
