Discussion Topic: Jared Kusar commits to Ohio State

Jared Kusar, a senior at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, has verbally committed to wrestle at The Ohio State University. Kusar started at Revere High School, where he qualified for the state tournament as a freshman with a 40-10 record. He placed third in the state as a sophomore with a 42-7 record, his only loss at the state tournament coming to three-time state champion Colt Sponseller. Kusar transferred to CVCA for his junior year and was considered one of the state's elite wrestlers. He ended up placing seventh in the state with a 43-6 record. He took national #1 Thomas Straughn to overtime during the season and had a host of big wins. As a senior, Kusar had a stellar year. He beat Division 1 champion Jesse Dong 5-4 at the Medina Invitational and decimated the fields at North Canton Hoover and the Top Gun tournament. He was fifth at the Ironman, losing only to national #1 Alex Meade and Texas champion Johnny Koepp. He romped his way through the sectional, district, and state brackets until the state semifinals, where he faced undefeated co-favorite Jedd Moore in what was a de facto championship match which Moore won 4-1. Kusar came back to place third on the strength of two lopsided major decisions. Along with being an outstanding wrestler, Kusar is an excellent student, reportedly having a 4.0 GPA. Kusar projects to wrestle anywhere from 157 to 174 for the Buckeyes under head coach Tom Ryan.

WOW!!! And just when I was thinking NOTHING good could EVER come out of that high school (I kid! <smile> ), in walks a tremendous wrestling talent like J-Money!

Although this verbal is all about what he can do at the next level and his verbal, let us not forget what tNDG is doing. Well done, Coach Ryan.

Dan: how do you get the inside scoop??????

He will be slotted for 149 or 157. At 174 he would look like the sumo wrestlers at the break of the college matches or the guy from Saturday night live.

Kusar is an outstanding addition to OSU. That's a great in-state pick up. Congrats to Jared and the Bucks.

Kusar just adds even more depth to a great line-up at Ohio State. Congratulations to Jared.

Nice pickup for the Bucks, particularly if he is in the 157-174 range as has been reported.

I saw Kusar at the Plain Dealer for a photo and he definitely is too small for 174. He is a Solid 157.

My bad on that. I assumed he was a 174 prospect and you know what assuming does...
