Discussion Topic: Gilman to NLWC, good for wrestling?
Jared Ball added to this discussion on April 10, 2020

With Thomas Gilman’s departure from the Hawkeye wrestling to the Nittany Lion wrestling club there seems to be a substantial consolidation of senior level
talent in Happy Valley. Wrestlers have always chased the best partners and training opportunities. It’s my guess that Gilman saw the writing on the wall at Iowa and sought the next best training opportunity. With Zane, Taylor, Snyder, and Gwiz already training out of that room (amongst others) it appears that Cael has amassed an overwhelming talent pool for senior level competitors. I realize things are cyclical, but with a seemingly bottomless endowment for senior athletes I’m left to contemplate the impact this has on college programs. You would be hard pressed to find a better training opportunity in the nation. You could conceivably merge Ohio State, Iowa, and Nebraska and there would still be a happy Valley advantage. Why would you even commit anywhere else if you’re a blue chip recruit?

Flo showed the film TERRY and then interviewed him afterwards. Gosh dang it if I don’t like him more now also.

(And to stay on topic) - his info on Gillman was solid.

Gilman wont be wresting Snyder, Gwiz, Taylor. Do u know whose near but not in his weight there?? i'm told the top guys don't want to wrestle their World team competition every day, thats why i say "near his wt but not in it"..... maybe Retherford?

Franklin Gomez trains with the NLWC even though he wrestled for Puerto Rico. I’d have to imagine that RBY, And some top notch newcomers like Bartlett and Howard will provide great partners. He’s there for Cael above all else

I didn’t realize it until the info on Pletcher came out, but Nico trains with Gavin out of Pitt.

this appears to be a Bingo, based on recent interview with Tom Brands --just as Ramos not happy Chad Dennis being there several years ago, Gilman probably wanted to get away from his comp at 57 kg Spencer Lee. .. top guys don't want their comp for World spots in same vicinity.
