Discussion Topic: tOSU's future 157-165-174

Much has been said obout tOSU's glut of young talent aroun the 141-149 area, however they have recently added some nice depth from 157-174. Here are some potential challengers for these spots.
157-Johnstone, Nemec, Jameson, Kusar
165-Sponseller, Nemec, Kusar
174-Magrum, Nemec, Finnicum, Kusar

I don't think Magrum makes 174. If he does, it is only for one season, next season. I don't think Nemec gets that big either. The more likely to move up would be Sponseller.
I still think that 174 is a big need. Maybe Finnicum surprises everyone and is a complete monster but we will have to wait and see.

Head coach Tom Ryan and I have spoken several times about me filling the void at 174 next year...I'm currently sticking to a diet made strictly of ho-hos and ding-dongs. ha!ha!

Nemec will be a solid 157 he is on the stocky side and I don't see him going above 157 in reality. Jameson looked like an undersized 145 this year and I would expect him to redshirt and then go 141/149.
Ohio State is stacked in the lower weights.
125 - Triggas, Touris, Zamaria
133 - Humphrey, Livingston, Harrington
141 - Jaggers
149 - Palmer, Jameson
157 - Johnstone, Nemec, Kusar
165 - Sponseller, Kusar

in seriousness, I've said it before and I'll say it again...I think a redshirt would be
very
good for T.J..

Does Jameson's style remind anybody else of Jaggers' style? If the cut for Jameson isn't crazy, he could slide into 141 in couple of years.
Also...
I can't wait to see Livingston back in the line-up! I saw him in practice a few times...the dude is fo' real!!!
My thing is there seems to be a few "tweeners" on the roster. I'm sure it could be said of a number of college rooms...but I'm in the Buckeye room; not everybody elses.
137 - the Hump and Will "the Thrill"
Jaggers...the perfect 145 pounder!
Another question...How would given the late-season success of Johnstone at 157 (4th at the BigTen's and some very close losses all season long)...what we he have done at 149 this year???

Barring a transfer or last minute mega signing, I think Wes Bergman could be a serviceable answer for 174 next season--if he can make the weight. Bergman isn't likely to win a lot but he's good on top and can tie guys up in knots. He can slow guys down and keep matches close which helps a lot in duals.
Kusar spent this season at 152 so I think all the 174 talk is silly. Nemec and Sponseller belong exactly where they're at. The future of 174 at this moment is Finnicum and whomever else the Bucks recruit.
I do believe that Jameson could put considerable weight on his frame so where he ends up is hard to say. And while he does remind me some of Jaggers, I also see Kendall Cross in terms of some of the things he does.
Keep in mind as you look at the Bucks lineup that I expect them to sign David Taylor and Collin Palmer. David Taylor will be an extraordinary 125 while Colin is a "legacy." Can't imagine him not being a Buckeye.

I forgot about Wes. He does well against Weakley when I see them in practice.
Could be a viable option.

I am always shocked when I see 174 next to Wes Bergman's name, isn't he like 6'6?
I honestly think that Magrum isn't going to have a ton of trouble making 174 next year. I think his main motivation behind going 189 was the fact that Witt was at 171 and they could both win titles. If you watch his match vs. Max Thomusseit at state you will see that Magrum is not much bigger than Max, and Max would be at 160 if he hadn't lost his wrestle off to Mannier. He's a big kid but I think he'll be fine.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see David Taylor as a 133/141? He is pretty tall and once he fills out he would be at least a 133. I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor and Neibert go 125 and 130 next season. They are both skinny and are due to gain some muscle.
I wonder if Coach Ryan is going to offer money to Collin Palmer. 149 and 157 are in good shape for the next 4 or 5 seasons. I'm sure he wouldn't say no to Collin, but I don't see any point to actively recruiting him (unless he thinks he can make 141).
It looks like the buckeyes best recruiting opportunities for 174 and 184 are James Mannier and Nick Mills. And SPG and University School are pretty good schools to get some pipelines going. I wonder if tOSU has had a Graham wrestler in a while. I can't think of any, which is interesting considering the proximity.
Good luck to the Buckeyes, Vikings, and Golden Flashes this week. Don't forget to TiVo ESPNU!

I like the Mills kid. He is sweet! I'd take him in a heartbeat!!! Not that any of the others are bad or lesser wrestlers, but I'm just high on this kid for some reason.

I too think David Taylor will grow into a 133 in college and should be the Bucks #1 priority. OSU should definitley actively pursue Collin Palmer as he has a very similar style to Lance who has started his career in un believable fashion for the Bucks.
