Augustine Mastroine was my drilling partner for 4 years in high school and my roommate/housemate in college. He was a groomsman in my wedding and I am godfather to his daughter. My dude.

So few teammates on our high school team that I attribute much of my lack of growth in skill to this. (There were not the plethora of training options back in the day like there is now.)
Knowledge improved greatly after graduation from Steve and Tim Dernlan, then from team camp most summers at Jeff Jordan’s.

True story: It was 2007 - my brother and I committed to taking a group of kids to Jeff Jordan's State Champ Camp. It was that year that my eyes were opened to a) what a head-inside single leg was, b) there was actual technique to that move, and c) there were different and effective ways to finish that technique.
All in all, that was what I call origins of me becoming a student of the sport.
I've learned GOBS and GOBS of techniques since that day. And, when wrestling with my son or high school kids, I seek out opportunities to use them.
Such a influential moment and surreal memory. It was as if scales fell from my eyes; blinders were removed. Even as I type this now I can remember the feelings and thoughts I was experiencing.
