Discussion Topic: Is tOSU the biggest dark bourse for 2021?

With Karchla and Sasso’s performance this weekend, Enchemendia’s arrival, and the return of pretty much the whole team for the next two years where do you put this team in the national landscape? No returning All Americans. No round of 12 guys. It’s hard to predict where the Buckeyes fall in the team race mix. Iowa is an absolute known. I’m not sure anyone is catching them. Cornell had major finalist potential until the Ivy’s canceled. PSU has a stable of young talent that is supposed to fill in nicely for what they lost. Nebraska doesn’t truly have anyone with national champ written on them, but they have ten legit guys, many of which are AA threats. Michigan has an entire fleet of redshirts returning including guys like Micic who are old enough to collect on their 401k. This list doesn’t include the likes of teams like Oklahoma State (who has an equal # of unknowns), or Rutgers (125-141 could all be huge threats). So where do you place Tom Ryan’s squad?

Currently, given the unknown status of the season, yes, but mores the unknown status of the field and this squad, just based on pure conjecture, I'd say we fall in the 4-7 range.

Iowa, PSU, NEB, and I'm adding in one other team - an unknown though - to finish ahead of OHST. After those first few teams though, often times it depends on who gets hot when. And THAT is what makes the NCAA tournament so awesome!

We have returning All-Americans, they just didn’t get to stand on a podium last year. But I know what ya mean.

Does anyone know when the season is proposed to start for the Buckeyes? Is there a schedule at least ready to be implemented?

I have seen nothing. At least from Big Ten schools I haven’t seen anything. The ACC schools have appeared to have released schedules, as well as the MAC. Not sure why we’re hearing crickets from the Big Ten...unless they don’t intend to wrestle like the Ivys.

It will be interesting to see if this first round of Covid vaccine users will start to turn the tide of the virus to a point where sporting events such as wrestling can go forward without the fear of spreading the disease. It hasn't stopped the FS side of wrestling with these events Sasso & Echemendia were a part of.

I am still concerned about the light weights, even up to 141. I know we hear Echemendia is going to compete there, but looking at him, my brain keeps telling me he is too big.

The other piece is up top, somebody really good is going to be on the bench between E. Smith, Romero, and Jordan.

Overall, I think the team will be solid, but if we have 2 non-scoring weights (potentially 3 if somebody doesn't move to 157), we really won't be a threat at major tournaments unless the existing scorers turn into consistent bonus point guys against top talent. I think a 4th to 6th place is more likely.

That being said, Echemendia going 149 and Sasso going 157 would shore up 157, but leave 141 as a hole. Unless Decatur moves up there. Or Kinner fills out into 157.
