125 #10 Malik vs. #1 Spencer Lee - If Malik makes it to 2nd period Bucks should get 3 points. - Spencer has TF or pinned everyone and I don't see that changing here.
133 #21 Decatur vs. #4 Desanto - Desanto TF him last year and I think he does it again
141 Echemendia vs. #1 Eierman - Unless he can keep this on his feet I don't see how Echemendia can win. I think Eierman turns him at least once and gets the MD
149 #2 Sasso vs. # Murin - I know Murin has a win over Sasso in freestyle but I think Sasso wins this one 5-3.
157 #26 Cleary vs. #5 Young - I've seen nothing from Cleary to suggest he can win but I do think he keeps it to a dec. I would rather see what Hepner could do here.
165 #6 Smith vs. Joe Kelly or Bretil Reyna - Marrineli is out with COVID protocols. I think Smith gets the MD here.
174 # Romero vs. #1 Kemerer - Kemerer won last year by dec. and I think he does here. I do think it will be closer then last year.
184 #17 Jordan vs. #8 Nelson - I don't know what to expect here. I'm taking Nelson by dec.
197 #24 Singletary/Hoffman vs. #3 Warner - I hope its Hoffman as Singletary didn't look great against Maryland. I think this is a dec. either way for Iowa
285. #10 Orndorff vs. #3 Cassioppi- I have Iowa winning by dec. but wouldn't shock me if Orndoff tried a throw and ended up getting pinned.
Iowa by a lot.
Jason or Jared can do a better write up then me but wanted to get the thread started.

I'm with you Jim. Got nothing to lose. I saw they had listed the Koontz brothers as possible starters at 125/133 for both Iowa & Purdue matches?

Wouldn't shock me at all if Malik didn't wrestle against Purdue. Schroder lost to Wisconsin kid so Malik has a better record now and could lead to a better seed at B10.

125 #10 Malik/Koontz vs. #11 Schroder - Schroder TF Malik last year but I think Malik wins here if he wrestles but as I posted above wouldn't shock me to see Koontz or maybe Koontz wrestles against Iowa and they save Malik for this match.
133 #21 Jordan vs. Rundell - Jordan by dec. and probably jumps out to nice lead before hanging on to win at the end.
141 Echemendia vs. #26 Filius - I will give Bucks a win here by dec.
149 #2 Sasso vs. #12 Parriott - Sasso pinned him last year at Cliff Keen. I think Sasso wins by 2-4 pts.
157 Cleary vs. Coleman - Cleary keeps it to a decision in a very boring match.
165 Smith vs. Nijenhuis - Smith by MD
174 Romero vs. Soehnlen - Romero to much pressure and wins by 6-8 pts
184 Jordan vs. #18 Lyon - Jordan split with him last year at B10 and from what Ive seen of Jordan I'm going with Lyon
197 Singletary/Hoffman vs. #17 Penola - I'm going Bucks with a dec.
285. Orndorff vs. Purdue - Purdue has 3 kids listed and either way I'm going with a win for Bucks.

Marinelli and now Tom Brands with a positive Covid test. I’m thinking this might get canceled.

You sure Marinelli tested positive? I would assume if true then with contact tracing Young and Kemerer would be out as well as others.

I like Hepner bout would be real careful sending a freshman out against a top 5 guy.

It's too late now, but I was hoping we would have seen him against Maryland. He has 2 exhibition matches with 2 pins.

I don’t think I could be 100% sure of anything. I’m repeating what I heard on FRL which was that he will be out due to Covid, and I believe Brands referred to it during a press conference last week. I absolutely could be wrong. It could be a contact tracing situation instead of a positive test. All I know is that the speculation is that he will be out for an extended period of time.

Well...I have to think that the needle didn’t swing drastically too far in either direction today. The Bucks weren’t completely embarrassed by the #1 Hawks, and handled the Boilermakers easier then I would’ve anticipated.
-I thought it was a smart decision to sacrifice the Koontz brothers at the altar of Dan Gable. Why destroy Malik’s confidence before a big matchup heading into Purdue. Honestly, the outcome would’ve been the same.
-Malik has made huge jumps from last year. His matchup today was absolutely a fifty-fifty ordeal. I’ve continued to be impressed by the improvement in his scrambling. He can get that win in the postseason.
-J.D., what can you say, at least he’s winning matches. It isn’t pretty, but he’s winning.
-Enchemendia’s match was predictable. For a time I was impressed with how the match was progressing, but Eireman knew what the rest of the country knows by now. AE is 2/3 of D1 wrestler. Keep in mind that he only has one loss, but he may be a liability at Big Tens. Everyone and their mother are going to pick top against him.
-D’Emilio impressed today. You can see why the coaches like his stock. I think he’s your starter moving forward.
-Sasso....why would anyone shoot a single leg on him, seriously.
-Cleary, 1-1 on the day. Battled against an upper echelon 157. He will still need to knock off someone to qualify out of a shallow weight.
-Ethan Smith is coming, and he looks like a legit AA contender. I know he wrestled a backup, and another unranked guy, but he looks different this year. Maybe a little more urgency...I dunno.
- Kaleb has continued to close the gap. I think he wrestled a little too conservatively, but he will absolutely have a shot Friday night to make it to the finals.
-Rocky Jordan. He wrestled on two polar opposite ends of the spectrum today. He was thoroughly out maneuvered in a match that should’ve been neck and neck, and then he manhandled a very solidly ranked Purdue opponent. ??? Confidence young man!!
-197 was not impressive today in either match. Not sure where you go from here.
- I’ll go out on a limb and say that we are better off a heavyweight then we were last year. Orndorf has been pinned too many times for my liking this year, but I’ll give the guy credit. He at least attempts to go for it. I’d rather that then someone losing in overtime every match and never earning bonus. Sorry Gtg.

I want D’Emilio at 141 for a different reason. AE has something wrong with that taped up leg, and a simple cradle had him in pain. Let the kid get healthy and get better at mat wrestling. The team has so many holes that any kind of team scoring and high placement at the tournaments seems out of reach this year. Also I thought Kaleb wrestled a decent match vs #1, but those two points (grabbing head gear and stalling) can be remedied in the future. Kemerer has great defensive skills that are difficult to penetrate but neither wrestler scored a TD.

Stat of the day.. Today’s match was the first time Michael Kemerer was held to zero takedowns since the 2018 NCAAs

agree on D'Emilio, should start. Ech not ready yet, cant win in big ten or NCAA if poor on bottom. i know Tom Brands wanted D'Emilio, gave him a good offer, give him a chance .
tough season with no tourn, too few matches and season too short to develop guys-- has Covid played a part?
but Rocky, Singletery, Hoffman, Cleary, and Decatur. They need to step up soon. Two and 3 years ago ohio st had a #1 and 2 ranked class-- of course Kirkvliet part of it but now he and Kinner apparently gone. Others slow to develop.
Rocky looks bad vs Brands, one tkdwn attempt, then nothing in 3rd period. But then beats Lyons so maybe there is hope. ... Singletary disappointing coming down from 285, not showing skills he had at Blair. Doesnt even look very strong. Decatur-- looks like a wasted year as of today. ... Some very high ranked recruiting classes did not pan out so far.
