Discussion Topic: OSU v *ichigan 2/12
Jared Ball added to this discussion on February 11, 2021

Friday night fireworks in Ann Arbor Starting a 7pm on the Big Ten network.
125- Heinsleman #12 vs Ragusin #14
Great matchup. Malik takes in the US senior open champ who has looked every bit the AA contender this year. Ragusin is a big 125 with great length and power. Interested to see how Malik fairs. The pessimist in me says Ragusin takes this one in a highly competitive match.

133- Decatur vs #2 Micic or Meadley
Will we see a Stephan Micic sighting...probably not. Since he’s on his seventh year of college he’s probably busy working his way through some PHD classes. I’m actually not convinced that we see Micic wrestle in college again. If Meadley goes I think Decatur can get the win as long as he’s up by at least five or six after one period. I give J.D. a 51% chance at victory over Meadley. Anything under five points after one period and we’re in trouble come the third period. I feel less confident if Ragusin starts here.

141- D’Emilio vs Mattin
Did this match ever happen in high school? Mattin is a tough out but I think Dylan gets the W here. Ironic that U of M has three former 125s manning the first three weights.

149- #1 Sasso vs #8 Storr
I was very surprised at the ease with which Sasso manhandled Storr last year. I think Sammy is capable of bonus here, but I think he walks with a decision but a solid workman like W.

157- Cleary vs #8 Lewan
Any chance we see some fire works from the Michigan State open of past? Remember that Cleary does own a victory over the former jr world champ. I don’t see that happening again. Still a close bout though.

165- Smith #8 vs Amine #16
We need Ethan to pour it on the freshman here. He needs to impose his upper class man will on the solid freshman. I think Ethan could potentially push for bonus here.

174- #4 Romero vs #2 Massa
Match of the night. Is Kaleb healthy? If he is I think this is a very tight bout with no real offensive scoring. I think this comes down to UTB. I give a fraction of an edge to Massa based upon his senior level success over the last calendar year, although that’s freestyle and this is folk. This could just as easily go Kaleb’s way.

184- #13 Rocky Jordan vs #1 Amine
Which Rocky will show up? I don’t think it matters either way. I see bonus for the Wolverines here.

197- #25 Hoffman vs Davison
The Michigan kid is a big meat headed immovable object. Kollin twice barely pulled out bonus over this kid last year. I think this is a toss up match. Which Gavin shows up? The one who lost to Illinois? Or the one who almost beat the MSU kid? I’m conservatively saying Davison gets the Ann Arbor edge.

285- #16 Orndorf vs #2 Parris
An absolutely horrible matchup for Tate. Bonus in a big way for Michigan.

I think Ohio State matches up very well with the Wolverines. If they can mitigate bonus in the matches they are out gunned in they have an outside shot at pulling the upset. I’m pesimisticly predicting a dual loss. Something like 17-12 in favor of Michigan.

Rumors are Amine is going 197 this year.

Seems like a big jump but kids to grow.

I think Amine at 197 might help out cause in this dual. Maybe not. Who knows!?

I'm wrong Amine isn't even listed. They have Bullock or Walker listed at 184 and Davison at 197.

Brady do you know if Kaleb will wrestle?

if Kaleb or anyone else cannot go,this ruling by NCAA helps.

from Matt Holmes at NCAA. interesting twist for seeding/qualifying because of Covid. If a wrestler does not compete in his conference tournament, he can still qualify for NCAAs, as long as no other wrestler on his team competes at conference tournament at that weight.

i think both Kaleb and Ech were hurt, ankle inj, these take time, ive had them.

I don't. I talked to him this week -- but it was about his cousin's wrestling and how I'm going to take his $ playing some golf this summer. :)

this team is teetering, can go one way or another, time to make a move--- really needs good showing by D'Emilio-- and at least an improved showing at 197.

That was the most offense I have seen from Rocky! On another note, is anyone else tired of Tim Johnson?

Hell of a match for Hoffman, guessing 197 will be his the rest of the way

Great match btwn two great NW Ohio wrestlers, from great families.
But as a Buckeye, I sure love the way D’Emilio hustles/battles.
Great, well-deserved win.

Well we had a shot, came up just short.
But pretty much up and down the line-up,
I thought our kids competed,
and wrestled hard.

Did Cleary ever take a real shot? I’m so sick of seeing him wrestle unless the point is to keep a match close.
