Didn’t make weight. Rumor has it didn’t show up to weigh ins on time. Another blow to the Ohio rtc

Is there more to this story? Otherwise, I don't know how the heck that happens. Weren't they all on site a few days early for testing? So it couldn't have been travel that made him late? And he bumped up to 97 kg, so weight shouldn't have been an issue?

Huge blow. If he knocked off Kyle I would've given Cox a fighting chance to beat Sadulaev.

Who knows if this is accurate, but I read elsewhere that he made weight, but was one minute late, and that they may be working to get him back in (whatever that means).

Several weeks ago there was a young man on a high school team at the sectional that failed to make weight. Folks were astonished that someone could potentially miss weight at the sectional of all tournaments. Obviously it happens at all levels.
I'm not sure I associate any of this with the Ohio RtC. The guy took a few bucks and trained for two weeks in Columbus. His coach is and has been Kevin Jackson. In fact, KJ is filing a petition to try and get J'den back in the tournament. I'd bet just about anything that nothing will come of it, but I credit KJ for fighting. Not sure how a 25 year old world champion surrounded by other professionals and moving up a weight class misses weight, but we see it in the UFC all the time. This isn't just a slight embarrassment either, even the Russians took notice. That's tough to come back from.

I remember when Daniel Cormier made an Olympic team and then failed to make weight for the Olympics. I recall thinking how somebody else was denied a chance to participate.

Cox isn't costing anyone a spot. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

Rulon did'nt know the right time in '96 and missed the weigh in. Stuff happens.

I realize these sort of things happen at all levels - there was one year when at Fargo where one of our guys was taking a (long) dump when his first match was up and missed it altogether and when you are a no show for your first match you don't even get to wrestle your second match - but my goodness, how does someone of Cox's caliber, and someone of Coach Jackson's coaching rank, goof up like this?

I'm saying this as a fan of J'Den Cox. I was really hoping he'd get another Olympic Medal this year.

Does anyone actually know what happened?

He wasn't where he was supposed to be when he was supposed to be there at the correct weight. I get that part of it.

His loss is Kollin Moore's gain. I'll be rooting for him to upset Snyder.

Obviously it's too late for this now, but was there any rule saying that Cox couldn't bump up to heavyweight? Since he supposedly first stepped on the scale on time but was over weight.

One of the women's wrestlers, qualified at 68 kg at the Last Chance tournament but hedged her bet at 76 kg and is now in the finals. All three styles had slightly different qualification procedures, but it makes me think that switching weights was allowed, unless you're sitting in the finals.

Sure, it would've been really tough for him to beat Gwiz or Gable, but I think he could've easily beat anyone other than those two. He did wrestle heavyweight his senior year of high school and bumped up on a couple occasions in college.

I knew about Rulon in ‘1996 — but is anybody buying the story J’den told on the broadcast tonight? Kevin Jackson told him the wrong time? I’m not.

A reporter tweeted a thread about what happened - and Willie Saylor reported same thing. J’den was running of the weight he was over and weighed in 15 minutes late.

Talk is now that arbitration will favor J’den and get a wrestle-off with Snyder. No way should that happen.

I have no idea what any court might possibly do BUT if you are Snyder and won the spot fair and square (and following all the rules and procedures), why on earth would you agree to a wrestle off??
Snyder made the weight and Cox didn't. Really pretty simple. I can't imagine a court seeing it any other way. However, like others on here, I am wrong a lot.

I don’t understand why the wrestle off would even be put on the table? Where did the idea even come from that it’s now floating around as some sort of reasonable solution? And if it was, wouldn’t Cox have to wrestle Moore first and if he won then get a shot at Snyder? Why the jump straight to the final?

And unless there’s some conspiracy uncovered, emails and plan that was put in place by USA Wrestling to deprive Cox of the opportunity to wrestle, I don’t understand the outcry. The guy missed weight. Regardless of who’s fault it is and what story you believe, the rules are the rules.

And for the record, I like Cox more than Snyder and Sadulaev better than either of them.

I agree completely. Technically, I think he'd have to wrestle two guys just to get to Snyder, since he would've only had a bye to the semis.

I can’t remember specific details, but it seems USA wrestling has granted odd wrestle offs in situations like this in the past. Like when Nick Marable supposedly slipped off a treadmill thus couldn’t make weight one year and then was granted a wrestle off at a later date against james green. Or what were the circumstances that year that Coleman Scott, Reece and Bunch had that special wrestle off after the trials? Was that 2012?
