appears the "screw America" contingent is in charge, no seed for Dake, Taylor, huh ?? ---or Steveson, theyll soon learn the error of their ways ..

several top seeds wont like this either, who wants to face these 3 right away? hope the refs are more fair.

The seeds are far from perfect, but in all fairness all the stakeholders have known the "seeding" process for the past few years. You get points based on your finish at the previous year's World Championships and at specific "ranking tournaments" IF you are at the same weight. Since Dake won Worlds at 79 kg instead of 74, that unfortunately doesn't count. Since Taylor missed 2019 Worlds due to injury, he missed out on points too. Since Gwiz was our last rep at heavyweight, Gable didn't have an opportunity to earn points at 2019 Worlds.

As much as the ranking system sucks, Americans not showing up at the ranking tournaments (or not showing up at the Olympic weight) is on them and/or their coaches.

I'm pretty sure the "seeding" at the last couple World Chamionships has been the same or similar - top 4 point scorers in the ranking series get a seed and everyone else is drawn in.

If you are the world champ, even at a non-olympic weight, that should count for something. Also, The Pan-Ams were a joke this year and didn't help America with seeding. They should have at least sent some of their top guys to Poland to get a little help with seeding. But I guess they are resting the athletes all the way until the Big Show. We'll see how that works out.

Dake looks unbeatable right now at 79. It may very well be there is a reason he doesn’t drop the other 11 lbs. and wrestle every year at 74. He knows the seeding rules so my guess is the cut is hard and he would rather do it once every four years.

He certainly looked fantastic at the Trials at 74.

Yeah, Dake don't need no seed to help him!

When I was a high school coach, the sectional seeding always prioritized wrestlers who returned at the same weight class. In other words, you were penalized for growing. I thought it was absurd but that's the OHSAA.

heres the best explanation, from veteran ace Amateur Wrestling News columnist Denny Diehl:

Named Sportskeeda ... I found it highly instructive; I thought Poland was too far to fly from India but the actual reasons to skip key events is explained below; the system for earning seed pts is known to all, but Covid era not a fair environment

Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia seeded 2nd for Tokyo Olympics, Dahiya ranks 4th
(UWW) on Monday announced the seedings for the Tokyo Olympics in different weight brackets of men’s freestyle.

Bajrang Punia has been seeded second in the 65 kg weight class with a point behind table topper Gadzhimura Rashidov. While Bajrang Punia has 59 points, his Russian counterpart finished at 60.

In 86 kg, Deepak Punia is seeded second with 54 points, behind Olympic champion Hassan Yazdani (Iran). The Indian wrestler could have entered the Tokyo Olympics as top seed if he had managed to win a medal at the Poland Ranking Series (note: it wasn't very tough). However, he pulled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury.

Bajrang Punia skipped the Poland Open to train in Russia. Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia are slated to join him in Vladikavkaz for training later this month.

Bajrang had chosen Russia as his training center for two reasons. The first reason is the fact that he will get a good sparring partner. The 2nd reason is the relaxed quarantine period in Russia.

"In Poland, there was a 14- day quarantine which was too long for me. In Russia, you do not need quarantine if you have tested negative for Covid-19,” the three-time world medalist said during a virtual press conference in May.
