Ethan Moore added to this discussion on November 8, 2021

Ohio had some good and some bad at East Lansing. I like this freshmen class a lot, but obviously time will tell.

To start, I'll list what I believe is the projected line up.

125: Sanchez
133: Guillen
141: Hagan
149: Hagan
157: Slivka
165: Yinger
174: Stanley (although Perrine won in the wrestle-off)
184: Lehman (true freshman)
197: Brewer
285: Earnest

Of those, 33, 41, 97 didn't wrestle yesterday. Not sure why but assuming bumps and bruises.

The good:

149: Hagan won the bracket. Odd results, though, as he received a MFF in the semis and the finals. I watched the final against Moore from Oklahoma and Hagan was up 3-0 when Moore had to MFF. Hagan has been a warrior for 4 years, he passed the 70 win mark this weekend for his career.

157: Slivka, 3rd. This bracket had some good competition. I don't see Saldate from MSU ranked, but he should be. Lovett from CMU is ranked 18th and didn't place.

FR/SO

157: Thompson 3rd, Kellar 4th: I don't much about Thompson, but he won 5 matches to place 3rd including a win over Ohio State Champ Kellar. Kellar won 4 matches to place 4th.

174: Perrine, 1st. This kid is good, don't know a ton about him but I know he was a D1 State Champ in Ohio and outscored his opponents 34-12 yesterday in 4 matches. Looks like a buzz saw on his feet. A name to remember if he continues to progress. As noted above, he won the wrestle-off against Stanley.

184: Lehman, 1st. Pin, major, major, decision. Solid. Don't know much about him, either. But a great first weekend. I think he may start at 184.

197: Greer, 3rd. Solid day. Could he be the starter? Not sure.

The concerns:

125: Sanchez and Hoskins (Oklahoma transfer) were a combined 2-4. Have to get some wins from this weight.

165: Yinger was 1-2. Not sure what the deal is, expecting a strong bounce back year.

285: Earnest, 0-2. Same as Yinger. I expect him to be a quality starter, not a great weekend.

3 starters out first weekend. This is a great tournament to get matches against solid comp, would like to see the whole team competing.

Went to my first OU basketball game while visiting my son this weekend. Hope to get to a wrestling match. I'm excited to follow the Bobcats.

The Bobcats host Navy on Saturday, Jan 22nd. Unless I'm dead, I'll be there. The following day, Navy visits CSU. Probably going to be there too! (My uncle once owned or worked with a bus company. I know all the secrets to sneaking on a bus. Yes, even the government busses!)
