Nice win by the Vikings in the first of two duals today. Fell behind 16-0 and then reeled of 5 straight wins with a big TF from Ben Smith to secure the victory.
Riley Smucker started the comeback and looks to be one of the pillars of this team. His victory was convincing. Anthony Rice has been having a rough season but came through in this dual with a couple of nice takedowns to seal his victory. Deandre Nassar scored a small upset in his victory. He is a tough man to takedown and hard to ride. Makes all his matches close. He used an explosive double leg to gain the lead and then a good counter move to secure the takedown that won the match. Ben Smith has been an exciting wrestler win or lose and came through today with a totaling dominating TF. John Kelbly then sealed the victory with a solid victory over the Chattanooga heavy. Imagine a larger Nassar with a similar style. Also wanted to mention Daniel Patten. Got caught early on a nifty 6 point throw but battled the whole match getting a couple of escapes, against a very solid top guy, and battled for a tough takedown late in the match. Showed me some real grit. A very entertaining dual.
Hopefully the Vikes can continue when the face West Virginia later today. Having followed this team for the last couple of years the young wrestlers have all shown growth and show a lot of moxie and fight. I really like this team. Warning, the opinions stated above are from a 70 year old man who, to quote one of my favorite posters, is frequently wrong and often mistaken.
