Injuries to Kemmerer, Lee and Eierman.

Injuries happen. Could be genetic disposition, positions engaged, volume training or a combination of the above.

The goal is always to get the most out of the athlete in terms of performance and peak when it matters most.

Interested to see what happens going forward with Real Woods. Does he marginally improve, improve a great deal, stay healthy? Only time will tell.

I'm kind of over the bravado of machismo.

You have to live the rest of your life with what you got.

Anyway, if Iowa keeps showing up with 20-30% of their team at less than peak physical abilities, I'm calling it a pattern.

Interested to see how this plays out. If there is a pattern here, will it change? Will the Brands bros evolve?
The Guy at Penn State seems to be evolving quite a bit.

On top of those three, Ayala and Cassioppi were also dealing with non-minor injuries.

They were certainly snakebit this year, but guys in black and gold looking like they're held together by papier-mache has been a hallmark of the Brands era. Especially these 6th and 7th year guys (not just at Iowa)--it looked painful for much of the year.

Something to keep in mind for Ohio State next year. This is going to be a very old lineup. Sasso, Hoffman and Heinselman in their 5th years. Smith, Romero and Orndorff in their 6th years. That's A LOT of wrestling--it may take some creative (and individualized) pacing to get them into the post-season in the best shape.

I have no idea why Spencer Lee is coming back. He has suffered several serious knee injuries. If he has any interest in a post-collegiate career, someone should advise him to stop competing in folkstyle, continue to heal and rehab, then give it a shot. I can't imagine why he'd do another year of college if he has post grad goals. He's such a remarkable talent. He has nothing to prove as a folkstyler.

Couldn’t agree more Hank.

I would agree but I have to think that, if possible, getting that 4th title is a pretty big carrot. Just a thought.

It could be but the weight will be deep next year and his odds of staying healthy for a full season are not great. It comes down to personal goals. Is becoming a 4 time champ more important than winning World Gold? Olympic Gold? Tough question.
