For those not aware, Nic Bouzakis and Nick Feldman had their first day of competition today at U20 World's. Bouzakis at 61kg, Feldman at 125kg.

-- Bouzakis --

Bouzakis VFA Rakhimov (UZB) 4-6
Bouazkis VFA Toprak (TUR) 4-4
Habibzadeh (IRI) VPO1 Bouzakis 13-11

2-1 with 2 pins (both while trailing slightly). He lost a close back and forth match to a tough Iranian. Habibzadeh just won his semi pulling Nic back in to repechage. Started a little slow in all three matches. Had the lead in his last match and gassed slightly--credit to the Iranian though, he wrestled well.

-- Feldman --

First round bye
Feldman VPO1 Ivanov (BUL) 5-2

First match was the quarter with a bye. Massive size difference (Ivanov has an old school heavyweight body, every bit of 125). Conservative match from Feldman but wrestled well overall. Ivanov is no slouch, bronze at Junior Euro's with significant international experience.

Next match will be much harder--Feldman being a pretty heavy underdog vs. Iran. Masoumi won cadets last year, has a few notable senior level wins (including over Mohebbi), and earned a wrestle off against Zare (world champ).

All of the matches are available in Flo Arena if you have access.

Side note--if you haven't watched Mitchell Mesenbrink wrestle, go check out his matches.

Feldman teched 11-1. Iranian will probably be a problem for years to come. Wow.

Indeed. Feldman is severely undersized and that was exposed massively here.

Masoumi looks like the next great heavyweight.

I just watched the highlights and you aren't kidding. Feldman was thrown all over the mat. Yikes!!

Feldman is an excellent wrestler but a bit undersized. That's why a year in redshirt is a good idea.Bouzakis and the Iranian had an excellent match and it could have gone either way.

A blueprint to defeat Feldman was shown. Defend the low single and under hooks to lift him off his base of power. This, of course, if you have the advantage of 4 to 5 inches in height. This also provides TOSU staff what must be worked on. Flashback to Snyder defeating Medbury of Wiscy and Coon of Michigan while giving up height and weight. Time to get to work.

To be fair, Masoumi would likely only be challenged by one current NCAA heavyweight, that being Gable Steveson.

We're talking freestyle but I agree.

Bouzakis drops 16-15 against Ukraine and is out.

He immediately gave up a 4+2 trying to force upper body, and was down 10-2 in the first 90 seconds. Had to expend a tremendous amount of energy mounting the comeback, couldn't quite get it done in the end. Even pulled out the injury time + challenge for an extra blow late.

Both matches he lost were entirely winnable. That will sting.

Love the aggressive way Bouzakis wrestles and don’t want to see the OSU staff try to reign that in too much. Although match management will need to be addressed.
