Dual takes place in Ann Arbor. This is OSU’s first real test of 2023. Curious to see if we get a full force lineup in this matchup of top ten teams. Rankings are off of flo

125: #9 Heinsleman v #23 Medley
-Is Malik back? He is 4-0 lifetime against Medley, although the scrappy Wolverine has lots of big wins over guys that have beaten Malik. When the dust settles both of these guys will push for AA spots at NCAAs IMO. 50/50 we see Mcrone or Gosalez.

133: #13 Mendes v #10 Ragusin
-this is going to be a fun one. Mendes aa been as advertised and Ragusin is a returning AA caliber guy. He’s a bit longer like Latona so I’m curious if that gives Jesse issues. Both guys have great motors. I think Jesse has the advantage in physicality but top could come into play.

141: #HM D’Emilo v #22 Mattin
-All Ohio matchup. Dylan owns a win over Mattin already this year at an open. No reason to think that result shouldn’t be replicated.

149: #3 Sasso v #16 Lamer
-Lamar could keep this to a decision, but never seriously threatens. I think Sammy could push for bonus.

157: #23 Gallagher v #6 Lewan
-Paddy has looked better each time out since his return. This is a great opportunity for him to get a signature win. Lewan is very stingy. I think this is a controlled 3-1 win for Michigan.

165: #7 Karchla v #5 Amine
-Carson lost the last matchup between these two. Amine has taken a few surprising loses this year (including to Hoeppner). Based on how Carson looked against Maryland I don’t think we see him here. Wilcox can do enough to keep it to a decision.

174: #6 Smith v Maylor
-Ethan owns two bonus point victories over the Wolverine. As long as he’s back and healthy there is no reason to think otherwise.

184: #5 Romero v #10 Finesilver
-Kaleb owns a 12-5 victory from earlier in the year. Could he push for bonus over the Duke transfer?

197: #16 Hoffman v Yatooma
-Another bonus opportunity. Hoffman won by major earlier in the year. He looked great v Rutgers but did not compete against Maryland. I suspect we see him here.

285: #16 Orndorf vs #1 Parris
- Tate has been pinned, tech’d, and majored. Why not throw Missista out there to run around and see what he can do.

I think it was the other way around.

Kharchla looked awful against Maryland. C. Amine has a win over Hamiti but a few head scratching losses. Not sure what is going on with Kharchla but assuming his knee isn't good. Such a shame. He's incredibly talented when healthy. Maybe the Md match was just him shaking off rust?

I have been informed that it is more than likely in this dual that we will see a “full strength” line-up from the Buckeyes! And I’m all about it!

My team is not competing the following day so we canceled practice & I’m having them over for a #WatchParty, complete with Rooster’s wings!

My thoughts:

125: Malik v. Medley – Malik is 4-0 against Medley, but their last matchup was in 2019. I think a healthy Malik takes this one by a takedown.

3-0 Bucks

133: Mendez v. Ragusin – Ragusin just wrestled a very close match with RBY. He’s a big 133, and that could give Jesse some issues. I’m going to give Ragusin the decision, but this is a huge toss up.

3-3 Tied

141: D’Emilio v. Mattin – These two have wrestled twice this year. At MSU, Mattin was up 4-2 (I think) when D’Emilio defaulted. In Vegas, D’Emilio won 6-2. I think the second result is the true reflection of this matchup.

6-3 Bucks

149: Sasso v. Lamer – Lamer didn’t wrestle against Penn State. If the backup goes out, it’s 4 or 6 for Sasso. If it’s Lamer, I could see a decision. I’m predicting a major though.

10-3 Bucks

157: Paddy v. Lewan – Lewan beats every Ohio State wrestler he faces either 3-1 or 3-2. So that’s the call.

10-6 Bucks

165: Carson v. Amine – These two split last year, with Carson winning 3-2 and Amine 3-1 in OT. I think Kharchla gets a TD in regulation and wins this one.

13-6 Bucks

174: Smith v. Maylor – Smith has a major over Maylor this year, and a TF and decision in the past. I think Smith gets the major, so long as he’s healthy and has his lungs.

17-6 Bucks

184: Romero v. Finesilver – Kaleb won 12-5 at MSU. I think Kaleb is wrestling better now than he was earlier in the season, and knows that every point matters. Major.

21-6 Bucks

197: Hoffman v. Yatooma – Hoffman majored Yatooma in Vegas, and I see history repeating itself.

25-6 Bucks

285: Tate v. Parris – Major, Fall, TF. Those are Mason’s results in this matchup. I think he gets the tech.

25-11 Bucks

Overall, there are 5 heavy favorites (285, 149, 174, 184 and 197). The good news is those mostly favor the Bucks, and Ohio State should be able to get bonus in all of them. The Bucks need 2 of the tossups, with 141 and 125 being the most likely, followed by 133, 165 and 157. I will be at a basketball game and will watch when I get home. Looking forward to a great dual.

***Edited to correct scoring error after 165 match***

Did you calculate the correct team score after the Kharchla match?

OSU website shows Malik or Gonzales, and Kharchla or Wilcox. All the other weights are starters. If they are still banged up do you put them in the lineup?

Coach Jaggers needs to hide the challenge brick from Coach Ryan.

I agree, Tom Ryan has a history of bad challenges. May have cost Carson that match.

Bucs could have won 9 of 10 matches had those close calls at 157 & 165 gone their way. At 157 the ref had such a perfect view of that scramble at the edge of the mat and was not calling it a TD for Lewan. Don't know what changed his mind during the review??

Overall, I think you have to say the performance of the Bucks was net positive. Ohio St won a majority of the tough matches and dialed up offense
When it mattered. Honestly, I thought OSU was much more dominant than the score indicated. Carson’s untimely granby was just poorly executed and handed Michigan six points. He had him in the cross heirs but didn’t close the deal. The Bucks look healthier, and rounding into form for a tough set of duals with PSU and Nebraska. Romero continues to be the most consistent performer on the team. I think he’s your MVP, and I’m not shocked if he pushes into the finals of NCAAs with how solid he has looked all season. You have like how Mendes is looking as well. He certainly looks as advertised at this point. Let’s hope the Bucks remain healthy and their trajectory continues up and to the right

Great match! Even in the losses Bucks wrestled well. Nobody got ridden out. Great win against rival

Bucks have looked much better the last few weeks than early in the season. Of course I'll probably change my tune when they take their annual beating from PSU. That's how I roll.

But it appears the staff and the competitors have worked hard to sharpen their edge.

And to parrot Rex, Paddy Gallagher looks much better now than early in the season.
