Karchla at 79kg puts him right at 174, which maps to all of the speculation that he’s moving up. It’s also good to see that he’s competing this off season. That had not been the norm with his injuries.

On the U20 side the Bucks send two to the world championships. Bousakis steam rolls his opponent in the best of three final at 61kg. Mendes absolutely blitzes a very deep field at 65kg, and then wins the spot 2 matches to nine. He put in a lot of work today and looked pretty stellar doing so. Brandon McCrone finished 6th at 57kg with some nice wins. He did get tech’d by freshman sensation Bo Bassett in the consi semis. Andre Gosalez finishes 3rd over a solid high schooler, Kyler Larkin in the 3rd place match. U23s up next.

Kharchla loses in the best of three series to Dustin Plott. Carson had a 9-0 lead in the first match and was about 2 degrees on a gut wrench from ending the first match. Plott scored a go behind in the next sequence and hit about six to the eighth power ankle laces. The match ends in a tech 21-10. Carson was pretty hobbled by the series, but did manage a 7-2 lead in the second match before defaulting out with a clear ankle injury. Side note, Miron looked to be in full Dad mode mat side. I’m curious if there is some friction there.
Paddy wrestles to an 8th place finish. Two loses to PSU 157 Bareclough (sp). A third to another opponent.
Overall it was nice to see both guys competing in the summer, which hasn’t been possible due to injuries. Carson seems more than capable of wrestling at 174. He definitely can compete there. Both guys didn’t show a ton more or less than what was seen during the NCAA season.
Shout out to Teays Valley grad Camden McDanel on making the junior world team along side Jesse and Nick.
