His first match was a close 2-1 win over a two time European champ from turkey.
Good luck to mendes in the finals. I’m expecting a good year two Jump from him. Now let’s go bouzakis

Mendez looks to be a full size 141. I was a little worried he would have a hard time finishing on bigger guys after he lost to Webster a month or so ago but doesn’t seem to be the case now.

Nic B. lost 12-11 in Qtr. To Mohit from India who is favorite to win it.
India needs to make finals to pull Nic into repechage

Mohit made the finals so Bouzakis is pulled back in. Some questionable scoring in the match he lost. Also if he would learn when to bail he wins that fairly comfortably over a tough opponent. Sometimes it's OK to give up 1...
Re: Mendez, this kid just knows how to win tough matches. When he was being recruited I don't think I had him as the spiritual successor to Luke Pletcher, but he's got some Pletcher in him.
Final vs. Iran I expect will be very tough. I'd encourage everyone to watch the opposite 65kg semifinal--some really high level wrestling for juniors between the Russian and Iranian. Also the Iranian kid recently won Yasar Dogu at the senior level.

Mendez lost 5-2 in the final. Great tournament from him. Picks up a medal in his third attempt at age level World's--has to feel good.
Shakeri is super physical and extremely stingy positionally... very tough to create opportunities to score against him. I expect we'll be seeing his name a lot more internationally going forward.
Mendez also picks up OLY redshirt eligibility if he ever wanted to use it.

Is medaling in an age group world completion the only criteria? For some reason I thought there was a lower level criteria.
Mendes might be the most technically proficient offensive wrestler on the roster. He is positionally sound and capable of creating offensive openings. Clearly he is gritty and doesn’t panic in close bouts.
Bousakis is going for Bronze later today. He is the exact opposite. Explosive, flexible, very athletic and at times positionally undisciplined. I can see why Ryan calls him “wild”. He is fun to watch, yet maddening at other times. I’m not sure how many times I saw him get shrugged by on an underhook in his quarterfinal. Nic must be insanely strong, and loves those body locks.
The coaching staff has clearly gotten both of these guys to jump some levels. Neither has finished higher than 7/8 in previous age level world competition from what I read. Hopefully Nic brings home the second medal of the weekend.
Overall, team USA has looked formidable. Congrats to Ohioan Camden Mcdanel on his bronze finish!

Bouzakis dominates to get bronze with two techs. Should have been a world champ. If Feldman was healthy could have had three world medalist this year. Future looks bright
