I don't think Iowa is anywhere close to Penn State. This PSU lineup is crazy good. Is there possibility that the Hawkeyes get shut out at Carver Hawkeye Arena tonight? I'm not calling for it, but I think it's going to be a blood bath.

Matches:
8 to 2?
7 to 3???
If 7 to 3, the minimums will be 21-9. No bonus is unlikely to happen. I think PSU bonuses in at least 3 matches which pushes the total to 24-9. If Iowa can squeak out a major, it's 24-10.
Has a press release been provided in regards to line-ups?

Shut out is definitely possible.
For what it's worth, wrestlestat only has Iowa winning one match, and that's Caliendo over Mesenbrink, which I think will go MM's way.

I think Ayala probably beats Davis, but otherwise see PSU cruising. This PSU lineup is capable of embarrassing good teams.
Oh, and Gabe Arnold could be an interesting matchup for Truax, if he goes.

Arnold kind of called out Starocci while still in HS and PSU boards are all over the kid. I doubt he has much say in when and what weight he wrestles.

I’m guessing 9-1, with Ayala the sole winner (in a tight match) for Iowa.
Woods/Bartlett should be tight as well, but I’ll go BB.
So with a stray bonus or three, here’s guessing the final will be 30-3.

So here’s a question for you all. Where does Iowa finish nationally in comparison to the other Big Ten schools? No one is touching Penn State. They beat Nebraska in a dual but got beat by Michigan, who lost to Nebraska and OSU. Duals are not tournaments, clearly. But I’m having a hard time seeing multiple All Americans up and down this lineup. Woods is the best shot for the finals, but he does not look as formidable as last year. Ayala is in a wide open weight, but I don’t think he has progressed like many thought he might. The move ins, Franek and Calliendo are ranked around the top 6/7. It is conceivable that Iowa only ends up with one or two AAs. When’s the last time Iowa finished outside of the top five?

Michigan is the team to watch come end of season. UM has potential AA's in DeAugustino, Ragusin, Lemley, Gomez, Lewan, Amine, Griffith and Davison. Some of these guys haven't been too impressive (Amine and Lewan) but they have a history of getting it done in crunch time. They're not going to touch PSU but they have the talent to challenge for runner up.
Nebraska has a lot of talent but it's not as proven with the exception of Lovett and, perhaps, Robb.
Iowa is similar to Nebraska but has a few more "proven" commodities in Woods, Frankek and Caliendo. Still Caliendo is in the toughest wt in the country and is far from a sure thing. I like Ayala at 125 but after that their lineup is similar to Ohio State...a lot of tough guys but few probables.

I watched the Mich/Nebraska match and was surprised Gomez tried to throw Lovett so early in the match and put himself in a 7-0 hole. Later he got to Lovett's legs and in hindsight he would have had a better chance of beating Lovett had he went with the leg attacks and saved the throw as a last ditch attempt later if needed, IMO. Lovett rode him really tough though.

Gomez has a history of going for big moves in duals, sometimes he gets them, sometimes he doesn’t. Remember when he was at Iowa State and threw DeSanto on his back, nearly winning the dual? He doesn’t try that stuff as much in individual tournament settings, but that’s been his MO for a while. I was more surprised that Lovett did everything but strap a saddle on him from then top position. That was impressive
